Wrexham 2-0 Swansea: 3 best moments from Rob and Ryan’s commentary debut

A look at 3 most memorable moments from Rob & Ryan’s live commentary during the Wrexham Vs Swansea Welsh derby contest.

Wrexham fans are bouncing after getting the revenge on Swansea in the Welsh derby. While a win as dominant as the 2-0 display is memorable on its own, the presence of Rob & Ryan in a historic evening made the celebration eternal.

Wrexham’s Hollywood era has seen co-owners Rob and Ryan standing by the club on every crucial occasion. The duo took matters a step further with a special live commentary debut against Swansea.

From the pre-game segment to the full 90 minutes, Rob and Ryan dropped entertainment bombshells for Wrexham fans. They relived the Chelsea FA Cup drama, traded jokes with former players, and turned the deray broadcast into must-watch TV.

On that note, here’s a look at three iconic moments from Rob & Ryan’s commendary debut in Live from Wrexham with Rob & Ryan:

David Beckham was FaceTiming us!

Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have often spoken about their frequent FaceTime calls. Whether connecting virtually or attending in person, the duo prefer to experience Wrexham’s high-stakes games alongside friends and celebrities.

During their commentary debut, Rob and Ryan recalled their recent FaceTime call with football icon David Beckham at the Chelsea Vs Wrexham FA Cup tie.

Notably, Ryan Reynolds was seen on a phone call while celebrating Sam Smith’s opener against Chelsea. It’s very possible that Rob and Ryan were FaceTiming David Beckham during this moment.

What feels like a normal interaction took a humorous turn when Rob and Ryan added a pun to the tale. The duo revealed that this FaceTime call was actually a truly unique “mime” interaction between them and Beckham.

As Rob and Ryan followed the knockout clash from the owners’ box, the deafening roar at the Racecourse made it nearly impossible to hear Beckham or communicate properly. As a result, they had to resort to facial movements and expressions to get their messages across.

Ryan Reynolds & Ollie Palmer’s Deadpool fun

Rob and Ryan were joined by a host of Wrexham heroes as guest panellists throughout the broadcast. While fans savoured all these reunions, Ryan Reynolds’ pun-filled exchange with Ollie Palmer stole the show.

It took place as Ryan Reynolds began discussing Palmer’s short but effective cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. For context, Ollie Palmer played a bearded bartender in the scene where Reynolds (Deadpool) meets Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) in a bar.

Ryan Reynolds set up Palmer by giving him credit for his presence, saying, “Ollie Palmer stole the show there in Deadpool & Wolverine.” While this was well acknowledged by the former Wrexham forward, Palmer returned it with a dig at Ryan Reynolds.

Ollie Palmer honestly confessed, “I’ve got a confession to make, I’ve not seen it [Deadpool & Wolverine] yet.”

But Ryan Reynolds, being the entertainer he is, played along perfectly. Ryan jokingly ordered Palmer to leave from the away section, saying, “You know what, you can just put the microphone down, and you can head out of the exit, in fact, walk through the away section and leave.”

This formed one of the typical Hollywood interactions that never fail to amuse Wrexham fans. While Ollie Palmer has promised to watch Deadpool & Wolverine and catch up with Ryan again, it remains to be seen if he keeps that promise before his next Racecourse visit.

‘Who cares’

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were joyous and full of energy throughout their live commentary coverage. However, there’s no denying that their wit and enthusiasm peaked every time Wrexham did something brilliant on the field.

At one point, Rob and Ryan openly said, “Who cares?” on the live broadcast. This was the duo’s unfiltered reaction to Wrexham’s 2-0 goal, which was counted as an own goal despite coming from a header by Callum Doyle.

While it would’ve been better to see Callum Doyle add another goal to his tally, Rob and Ryan accepted the goal as officially recorded. At the end of the day, this goal saw Wrexham celebrate a once-in-a-decade moment by sealing victory in the Welsh derby for the first time in over 20 years.
