Sheffield United are Wrexham’s next Championship opponents. However, the Blades have one forward who can fix a major creativity issue for boss Phil Parkinson.
We’re in the final days of the year and with less than 10 days left in 2026, most people have begun planning for their new resolutions, too. Well, to say that it’s the same for Championship football wouldn’t be wrong.
Be it players or their gaffers, everyone intends to improve this new year. And for the ones that have their spot in danger, they ask for some more time to prove their worth.
No, I nowhere said or implied it like a taunt for boss Phil Parkinson or Wrexham’s situation, but you get it right?
Continuing the resolution train, Dragon fans would hope for a change in their Championship scenario this 2026. And though it’s not verified, arguably, no one would disagree even if it comes from taking a leaf from an old contemporary’s action plan.
After all, smart warriors learn not just from their own battles, but from the skill of their opponents. Noting that a learning opportunity arises from a better-ranked contemporary as Birmingham, nothing could be better.
Well, it’s a long time till Wrexham battle the Blues again and who knows? We might see both sides lining up with new gaffers by then. Yet, the Dragons need not wait to put this “learning from opponents” skill to use, especially with the opportunity the next matchday side presents.
Breaking the suspense, it’s Sheffield United’s wantaway forward Louie Barry, who can come in handy to Wrexham.
Louie Barry’s situation makes him tailor-fit for Wrexham
No Wrexham fan would’ve forgotten Louie Barry, given the screamer he put in against Wrexham last year. Beating the Dragons in a “virtual 6-point encounter” in League One, the 21-year-old lad became one of the most well-known ones among Wrexham fans.
See the courtesy of time, as the situation now puts Louie Barry and Wrexham in a position where they might need each other.
As per Football League World’s report, Sheffield United is in discussions to terminate Barry’s loan spell with boss Wilder seeing ahead of him already. Which means that unless something drastically changes, the winger looks set to be up for grabs this winter.
The report further says for the increasing Championship interest in him, but that’s where Wrexham ought to enter the race for Barry and make him their own.
Now, it’s fair on your part to question the desperation for Barry, but hear me out on this first.
What about Barry helps Wrexham’s promotion case?
Long story, short, Barry is everything that boss Parky’s gameplan needs to improve with.
Undisputedly, a primary reason for fans’ “Parkinson OUT” narrative originates from his tactical boredom that ain’t fetching results now. Week in and week out, Championship clubs are hitting the perfect plan against Wrexham, diluting the club’s promotion scenario.
That’s where Barry’s addition could act as a gel in strengthening the Dragons again.
Being a dribbler excelling in 1v1 take-ons, Barry improves Wrexham by adding a new dimension to the club’s attack. Currently, overly dependent on a tall striker’s heading abilities, the former La Masia starlet balances Parky’s side on the wings with deep plays.
Agreed, the 22-year-old’s Championship credibility remains on the line, but taking a chance on Barry for a loan spell makes sense.
Finally, there’s no doubt that loaning Louie Barry is a risky choice. While being injured looks like an immediate liability for his new employer, Wrexham can’t go wrong than betting on a youngster who’s proven in League One.
Only time will tell if Wrexham explore this chance or not. But keeping in mind the chance of hitting a jackpot with him makes Barry at least worth considering.
