Phil Parkinson finally makes the lineup call to play Nathan Broadhead, Josh Windass and Kieffer Moore all together which Wrexham fans were crying out loud for a while.
Going into the Boxing Day fixture, Wrexham fans almost imagined Phil Parkinson’s eleven shipping out two goals against the Blades. It’s a running tradition for the Red Dragons across December 2025 and actually, the Wrexham backline conceded three this time around.
Ask any Sheffield United fan, they would happily enjoy three goals on a Boxing Day night as it usually guarantees a Championship win. Unfortunately for the Blades, they still ended second best to a Wrexham side who went rampant in attack scoring goals left, right and center.
Keeping aside the horrible first half defending, the Red Dragons basically scored all five goals for fun while breaking 3 records in the process. Still, be honest as a Wrexham fan and tell whether you saw this performance coming before the lineups were dropped?
Most likely NO. Then, what changed for Wrexham? That boosted the attacking firepower we had never seen aside from the 3-2 Coventry City win.
Simple answer, Phil Parkinson finally paid attention to a lineup change Wrexham fans were crying for months. It’s not even a debate that the club’s best forward is Kieffer Moore, and Josh Windass is the second best attacking threat after the tall Welshman.
However, Wrexham has sorely missed a third attacking option whenever Moore has been man marked by opponents. Or, when Windass looks a shadow of himself as he did in the previous Swansea City defeat.
Phil Parkinson finally makes Nathan Broadhead lineup call
Actually, Wrexham’s record signing Nathan Broadhead did arrive for probably solving this purpose itself. The 27 year old winger is a regular presence in the Wales national team, has a brief Premier League experience and did excel at Championship level for Ipswich Town very recently.
Even in fewer minutes, Broadhead had recorded 5 goals in a Dragons kit and fans obviously wanted to see more of him. Yesterday night, Broadhead didn’t disappoint.
Running at the Sheffield United defenders, laying an inch-perfect assist for Kieffer Moore to make it 4-3 and tracking back to help the Wrexham defence, Broadhead was everywhere. There is a fair argument to be made for Broadhead as the Man of the Match but maybe he was short on goals to win the award.
Anyways, it’s quite funny to think what was stopping boss Phil Parkinson from utilizing Broadhead more often. All the creativity issues in front of goal that Wrexham suffered against Watford and Swansea City previously, will have been solved.
Those two games accounted for 4 points lost from the Red Dragons grasp, while the required attacking solution was present at hand.
Noticing the improvement in Wrexham’s Boxing Day performance versus the most recent ones, fans couldn’t resist calling Phil Parkinson to stick with a front three of Nathan Broadhead, Josh Windass and Kieffer Moore.
Wrexham fans react to Nathan Broadhead, Josh Windass and Kieffer Moore trio
Beneath the coach’s interview on Wrexham’s YouTube channel, one fan commented: “Finally parky plays windass and broadhead supporting moore and the end result was the team on the front foot, looking dangerous in final third and a excellent second half performance.”
Another Dragons supporter had waited for long to see the trio in action and therefore, took a sigh of relief that Parkinson finally acted accordingly. He added: “Who would have thought, put your best players on and get the best performance. Been waiting to Moore, Windas and Broady on together from the start and boom.”
Further, there are plenty of Wrexham faithfuls who have developed a newfound confidence for the Championship season. A third fan reflected: “now the realisation by Parky we are a different beast attacking wise when we start with both Windass and Boadhead.”
Well, people say good things take time to happen. So far, Parky has spent five months in the Championship realising that he can unleash a ton of goals for Wrexham just by naming Broadhead, Windass and Moore all together in the starting lineup.
Let’s hope the gaffer doesn’t forget this secret recipe for goals anytime soon.
