Wrexham admin throws a mocking jibe at Sheffield United fans regarding a viral Kieffer Moore transfer banter that began back in July, after Moore’s winning brace in a 5-3 Boxing Day win.
Finally, the Boxing Day matchday is also in the past, and with 23 matches imprinted against their Championship ranking, Wrexham’s 2nd-tier return is half done.
I know, it’s being a bit too confident for a 13th side’s promotion hopes. But given the Christmas miracle they just pulled off, one can’t write them off from adding the Championship promotion season in the “Welcome to Wrexham” series.
In fact, ask the Dragons, and they’d leap onto the opportunity to push for a season release just on the latest Sheffield win. A win so impeccable and dramatic, you don’t need additional scripts to make it Hollywood-level.
The energy of the fans, the cheering on the smallest ball wins, and the fans cheer in unison after Moore’s 4-3 winner. Man! You just had to be there to feel what was flowing at the Racecourse last night.
Well, to say the club’s admin was also living an experience to remember his whole life wouldn’t be false. And his cheeky jibe after a sensational Kieffer Moore performance proved it perfectly.
As you’d know, the Welshman has been living long with the Sheffield playoff final trauma. While some may say Wilder’s timely comment turned Moore into a cornered beast with a score to settle, there’s no denying that he was under huge pressure to perform against his former side.
But big Kieff didn’t just show up, the 33-year-old showed up with a match-winning display. Making praises so obvious that Wrexham’s official X(formerly Twitter) admin couldn’t resist mocking a previous Sheffield fan’s viral post.
Dated 28th July, the Blades fan tweeted on Moore’s Wrexham transfer links saying: “4m for Kieffer Moore I’ll drive him there tomorrow that’s insane”. What he didn’t know was that Moore would hurt them once again, forcing Wrexham admin to quote back on this, with: “Thanks for the lift.”
Wrexham’s tweet banter heats up the returning tie even more
While many Dragons may not know, Wrexham’s banter rivalry with the Blades extends far before this reply, or even this year. In fact, having engaged in strong responses on X, it’s a unique rivalry brewing up mostly through social media.
If you’d notice on your X timeline, another post that’s going viral is Wrexham fans teasing the Blades with the Billy Sharp crying celebration. Well, digging up its history is worth knowing how this rivalry originated.
So, the tale starts when 3 years ago, the Wrexham official account posted a pic of the club stars doing Son Heung Min’s iconic camera pose celebration.
Nothing notoriously interesting, right? Only until one realises the admin tagged Tottenham’s official account. It was a cheeky attempt at hinting at their potential face-off while Wrexham still needed to eliminate Sheffield United in the 4th round of the FA Cup to make it true.
For a club still battling for a National League promotion, the swipe seemed a bit too far against a Championship competing Sheffield United. And the fear turned true, as despite a fairly close contest, veteran Billy Sharp won it for the Blades by dropping his crying celebration on Wrexham’s heads.
To note how that single tale has developed into the extended Sheffield and Wrexham rivalry amazes everyone. Displaying the growing importance, the social media platforms are now delving into the game.
Still, what’s imminent now is that the latest Wrexham admin’s swipe has guaranteed a sold-out game when the Dragons tour the Blades in the return tie in late March. And don’t expect the hosts to be any less hostile this time, as they’d be coming for Wrexham and especially, Moore’s skin.
That’s not forgetting Sheffield still holds the upper hand against Wrexham in their last 5 games. We’d hope for another Moore show that helps the Dragons improve their record. But will it happen? At least, let’s hope so.
