Paul Mullin to Wrexham rumours only make sense in one condition which involves Wrexham fulfilling Mullin’s Championship wish.
Since 2021, it is the first Christmas as well as New Year’s Eve that Wrexham are celebrating without Super Paul Mullin. Similar to multiple Red Dragons legends from the past and present, it’s difficult to sum up Mullin’s impact in a single word because he basically helped Wrexham go places from non-league to the top division in the EFL.
Very soon, the club will be gearing up for Premier League football. When that happens, the Wrexham fanbase will no doubt stay grateful to Mulls and many other former club heroes for their efforts.
Many among those Wrexham fan favourites have hung up their playing boots. Some, like Steven Fletcher now sit back and take a trip down the Reds nostalgia lane to relive the thrilling promotion rides again.
As for Mullin, he is not done playing competitive football just yet. Currently, he lines up for League One side Wigan Athletic giving a good chunk of Wrexham fans another reason to watch third division football this year.
How many goals has Paul Mullin scored this season?
In the 2025/26 season, Wrexham loanee Paul Mullin has bagged 5 goals for Wigan Athletic in the third tier. Initially, it took Mullin a handful of games to deliver the goods in a Wigan shirt but by now it’s usual scoring days for the 31 year old.
Recently, Mullin’s Wigan Athletic also wrapped up their 2025 with a comfortable 2-0 win on the back of an unpleasant Boxing Day result. Well, I know you’re waiting to listen to how many goals Mullin scored here but unfortunately, the Wrexham hero was nowhere to be seen.
In all likelihood, Mullin could turn up for Wigan Athletic in their New Year’s first game but there is a sensational rumour going on in the meanwhile.
Paul Mullin to Wrexham rumours
As pointed out by @racecourserambl on X(formerly Twitter), the Paul Mullin to Wrexham return rumours are doing the rounds in the January rumour mill. Considering his strange absences in Wigan Athletic’s back to back games there are certainly reasons to believe Mullin retreating to the Racecourse within six months of departing.
Agreed, Mulls only went away temporarily and his loan transfer still has 5 more months to run down. However, there is an unwritten rule about loan deals which is that these transfers aren’t set in stone.
Both the parent club Wrexham, and the loaned club, Wigan Athletic can terminate the Paul Mullin loan whenever they mutually wish. Assuming that is the case, the Red Dragons are simply adding another striker to their ranks when Kieffer Moore is arguably in the form of his life.
Coming Thursday, Moore will be a pre-game doubt vs Blackburn Rovers and Mulls won’t be replacing him there. The only way ahead for both Mullin and Wrexham is to go their separate ways, integrating him back to Phil Parkinson’s squad will be a step back.
Should Wrexham fulfill Paul Mullin’s wish?
A best case scenario Wrexham can do is fulfill a long standing Paul Mullin wish. Earlier in Welcome to Wrexham’s Season 4, Mullin lift the lid on a wishful Wrexham dream: “Just to play one game in the Championship at Wrexham would be worth absolutely everything, be the icing on the cake for this story, who knows where it could end.”
Playing one minute in the EFL Championship counts as playing a game. Plus, Wrexham doesn’t have much to risk should they bring on Mullin for the final five minutes of a league game they are comfortably leading 2-0.
It would then, be a win-win situation for both. Later, the Red Dragons can fetch a winter transfer for Super Paul Mullin to either a League One or a League Two club that is crying out for his finishing ability.
Not downplaying Mullin, but seems like he wasn’t Wigan Athletic’s priority long term, else, they wouldn’t have isolated him from the squad near the January transfer window.
