Wrexham urged to sign Brazilian number 10 who took the Premier League by storm

Wrexham urged to sign Brazilian

Former Premier League hero Sandro urges Wrexham to make a move for Brazilian playmaker Matheus Pereira.

Tomorrow would mark a week in the January transfer window, and Wrexham’s war chest still lies under the mattress. Rightly so, because it’s been a period of speculations but no transfers so far.

Now, this ain’t forgetting Super Paul Mullin’s recent return, but calling it a Wrexham move doesn’t make sense. While the club welcomes its superhero, Mullin’s transfer loan return has been sponsored by a likely fallout with Wigan Athletic.

The same’s true for rumours like Ryan Hardie to Rangers. So far, it’s all in the fans’ discussion forums, with any actual move from Wrexham impending.

At this point, many would recommend, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Especially, how despite lagging behind their Championship opponents in transfers, Wrexham are still managing wins week in and week out.

Fair point to acknowledge. But given Rob & Ryan’s Premier League ambitions, it’s an open secret that Wrexham ought to welcome some signings, with at least one of them being an attacking recruit.

Wrexham urged to pursue Brazilian flair upfront

Just a few weeks before, Wrexham’s simple and plain need stood as adding wingbacks. But given Thomason & Longman’s recent displays, this aspect only seems to be improving with Cacace & Kabore re-starting soon.

How about spicing up some creativity from the centre instead?

Not to discredit Windass, but he’s probably the only one whose abilities have been nerfed ever since Wrexham switched to a 3-4-3. Often employed out of his usual role amid an injury setback, he’s been a shadow of his usual best lately.

Well, not to worry, lads, as one of Wrexham’s newest supporters and a former PL hero, Sandro’s got a name nitpicked for this role.

Recently, as quoted by Wales Online, Sandro urged Wrexham to consider a Brazilian number 10, who has had heroic English spells to show off. Sandro vouched for former West Brom star Matheus Pereira, saying: “Matheus [likes to play] like a number 10. He’s a good footballer. He has played in Europe before. He is a real baller.”

For OG Championship fans, Pereira ought to be a familiar one. But for those demanding an introduction, the 29-year-old was key in firing Brom to the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.

Come the next season in the Top Flight, and the Brazilian would surprise everyone by smashing 11 goals and 6 assists in his only attempt. Ever since, Pereira hasn’t had things going perfectly for him, but surely he’s still got the flair to help Wrexham’s PL ambitions.

Does Matheus Pereira’s signing mean Windass’ sale?

I know, this sounds funny given Windass’ repute at Wrexham, but it’s just quashing any baseless implications. Because more than competing, Pereira’s signing could actually complement Josh Windass.

It ain’t hidden that despite a power-packed roster, Wrexham has only Windass to rely on in the number 10 rule. While his absence didn’t cost against Blackburn, the club would want to curb all such instances completely.

That’s where Matheus Pereira comes in. Having had excellent numbers in his previous Championship spell, the Brazilian could be the ideal backup to Windass.

In times like the recent formation shift, which hasn’t gone well for the 31-year-old, Pereira could lace up his boots to show what he’s got.

Just imagine, an all-round attack with Thomason & Longman providing balls from the wing, Broadhead taking charge upfront & Pereira dancing his way through the centre of the park. Already a beast-like attack, this ought to transform Wrexham into the best goal-scoring unit this season.

Furthermore, having had Premier League experience, Pereira comes as one of those rare players around whom Wrexham can prepare for life beyond. And all it starts with is a move for the 29-year-old.

Everything shouts for Wrexham to make way for Pereira’s English return. Will the Dragons take a shot at PL success? Let’s hope so.
