Wrexham fans have reacted with joy and a bit of light banter after hearing the Max Cleworth contract extension news.

Wrexham are going through their best Championship patch of the season. The Reds aren’t inside the playoffs rope yet, but their current form even makes fans think whether a direct promotion could be on the cards. The boring January transfer window was the only thing that stuck out like a sore thumb for Wrexham at the moment.

But cheer up, Wrexham fans the club have secured the services of Racecourse fan favourite Max Cleworth for a further three years than it was before. Earlier, Cleworth’s Red Dragons contract was set to run out in 2027 but Wrexham have thrashed free terms with the 23-year-old centre back.

Wrexham fans react to Max Cleworth contract extension

As expected, Wrexham fans were over the moon with Max Cleworth signing a three-year contract extension. Upon knowing this, one fan put it perfectly on X(formerly Twitter): “The past, the present and the future.”

Truly, Cleworth has surpassed more than half a decade in the Wrexham first team. And the incredible part is, the English prodigy still has over a full decade left in his playing career. In that, Cleworth could progress to the English national team.

The day it happens, Wrexham fans will be proud like anything after all, they saw Cleworth adapting to divisions much quicker than many talents do. In saying this, the Premier League is not a far fetched dream for Cleworth.

And Wrexham fans are warding off likely suitors from circling around Cleworth. A witty fan said: “Sorry Villa he is ours!”

Well, boss Phil Parkinson already turned down any Aston Villa transfer noises a week ago, now fans are also rejoicing in it. A third fan just came up with a brilliant Max Cleworth idea for the future.

He predicted saying: “Our future captain.”

Nowadays, it’s an unspoken tradition across English clubs to hand over the club captain’s armband to the team’s best defender. Wrexham have also adapted this pattern, by making Dominic Hyam the standing skipper on the pitch.

Hyam is 30, and might be moved on in a couple of years when Cleworth reaches the age of 25. Then, the tall defensive general will be shouldered with the responsibility of organizing the backline. As such, Cleworth leading Wrexham in the future seems a no-brainer decision the board can make.
