Wrexham fans defend Josh Windass actions after his 2-2 equaliser from the Reds 3-2 QPR win away in the Championship.
Wrexham left the fans proud with a lively second-half performance to overtake QPR for a 3-2 comeback win. As seen with every winning side, the entire dressing room erupts into wild celebrations at full-time including managers too.
Phil Parkinson was also visibly pleased to see the late goals flowing in for Wrexham. So was Ollie Rathbone, the commentators and the huge Reds bench. However, there was one Wrexham player in particular who stayed quite emotionless through all the injury time drama.
Josh Windass actions from Wrexham 3-2 QPR
That was Josh Windass, a super sub brought on against QPR to impact the game. The 32-year-old knew the assignment and unleashed a deflected volley to get Wrexham level at 2-2 with barely minutes to play. The expectations were for Windass to run through the pitch, join the fans in celebrations or atleast throw a fist in the air out of joy.
Surprisingly, Windass did nothing in the aftermath of his wonder goal. He simply walked back to the centre of the pitch and soon, QPR resumed play from the kick-off. At that moment, it felt clear that Josh Windass actions would be the centre of attention for Wrexham fans after the game regardless of the result.

Perhaps it’s down to Wrexham winning the game 3-2, but thankfully fans aren’t going mad at Windass. Instead, a majority of the Reds fanbase are defending Josh Windass which is the right way to back players.

One fan put the Hollywood lenses on and praised Josh Windass for remaining cool-headed while the game was still in the balance at 2-2. He said: “You know those Hollywood action movies where the hero blows something up and walks away from the explosion without so much as flinching or glancing back? That’s Josh Windass.”
Frankly speaking, that’s a positive way to look at the whole Windass situation. Given that the club have Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac they would obviously relate well to Windass walking back unfazed like a hero.
Another one tried justifying Josh Windass absent celebration as a last-gasp strategy to push for an even better result than a 2-2 draw. He summed up, saying: “He’s probably thinking of saving time to get the win (time was tight) rather than doing a big knee slide. And well, we did win, with his assist.”

It all makes sense now. Windass tested a few shots from distance before his effort from a deflected corner went in. That suggests, the Englishman might have held out belief for him or another Wrexham teammate possibly winning the game through another magical strike.
Lo and behold, the same happened as Ollie Rathbone made headlines by capping off a stunning 3-2 comeback win for Wrexham. A third fan reasoned it by looking at the bigger picture out there. The team always comes before players, so ensuring 3 points on the plate for Wrexham should be the biggest concern for every Reds player out there.
Only after that, comes individual player celebrations or anything else. He added: “Doesn’t bother me – whatever works for him, just keep scoring and getting assists.”
Overall, the Wrexham fanbase should feel glad for Josh Windass finding his scoring boots again. The first time he has netted a goal in 2026, after 5 months of being an integral part of the Red Dragons front line. Next up, Josh Windass will come up against his former club Sheffield Wednesday and hopefully his scoring run continues there as well.
