Paul Mullin leaves Wrexham for club where Phil Parkinson is a legend

Paul Mullin leaves Wrexham on loan for League One side Bradford City where Phil Parkinson is a legend.

Right now, Wrexham are casting their transfer net over as many star Championship strikers as possible. There are updates emerging for the Reds interest in former second tier Golden Boot winner Sammie Szmodics, Adam Armstrong and many more names could be set to follow in the upcoming days.

Plus, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has a good chunk of forwards with him that he will most likely not need further. Hence, the fans don’t need any reminder to tune into striker transfer rumours until Monday night. Turns out, a striker exit is coming first with Wrexham ironing out the transfer details for club legend Paul Mullin’s January departure.

Paul Mullin leaves Wrexham to join Bradford City on loan

In his own words, journalist Pete O’Rourke confirmed Paul Mullin’s move saying: “Understand Bradford have agreed a loan deal for Wrexham striker Paul Mullin.” Finally, the decisive transfer moment has come regarding Paul Mullin which all Wrexham fans had been waiting for.

Honestly, Mullin is a Red Dragons legend and arguably the biggest individual reason why Wrexham are sitting in the Championship today. Throughout the National League and League Two, Mullin was the biggest source of goals for Phil Parkinson’s men with exactly 100 goals coming from his boots during those 3 campaigns alone.

Later, big things were again expected from Paul Mullin when Wrexham’s League One commitments come around. Only 3 league goals meant a poor season, which was enough to virtually write off Mullin’s long-term future at the Racecourse.

Since then, Mullin has adapted to third division football a bit better with a handful of League One strikes coming in a Wigan Athletic shirt during a six-month loan. Thanks to his short but fruitful Wigan Athletic spell, Mullin is in line to mark a swift return to League One with Bradford City.

From the outside, the Bantams are languishing in a playoffs struggle in a bid to gain a Championship promotion ticket in May. No doubt, that’s the task for which they want Mullin’s help and also, it’s obvious who may have recommended Mullin to join Bradford City.

Phil Parkinson is a former Bradford City legend

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson might have played a helping hand in completing the Paul Mullin to Bradford City January loan. Despite dropping him during the second half of 2024/25 season, Parkinson is no stranger to Mullin’s goalscoring ability. The Englishman knows Mullin can find the back of the net for fun if he is backed enough in a promotion-chasing environment.

And Bradford City aren’t just another club for Parkinson. Parky spent 5 wonderful years with the Bantams during the previous decade, where he still holds more coaching appearances than his current promotion-laden Wrexham stint.

A main reason behind Parkinson’s lengthy Bradford City career was down to him bagging a League One promotion and keeping the Bantams afloat for a few years until he left. Moreover, Parkinson has recorded a good FA Cup memory which is still cherished among Bradford fans to this day.

During the 2014/15 season, Bradford toured the Stamford Bridge for a showdown against the then-defending Premier League winners Chelsea. Despite being the underdogs and falling down to a 2-0 scoreline early on, Phil Parkinson guided Bradford to a 4-2 FA Cup upset at the full-time whistle.

Talking about Paul Mullin, he will stay a Red on paper until summer 2027 arrives. Clearly, the 31-year-old doesn’t have the pressure of hitting free agency in the immediate future while a successful Bradford City loan can open doors for him to join the Bantams permanently.

Wrexham fans will wish for that possibility because no matter how much the fanbase craves to see Mullin starting again for the Red Dragons, that dream is only a wishful thought. Hence, it will be better for Wrexham, the fans as well as for Super Paul Mullin if his future gets permanently resolved as soon as possible. Let’s wish Paul Mullin the best for his Bradford City move ahead.
