Former club keen for Elliot Lee reunion in January out of nowhere

Elliot Lee reunion

Luton Town has shown interest in signing out-of-favour Wrexham midfielder Elliot Lee until the end of the season.

With near-finalised deals for Ryan Hardie and Paul Mullin, Wrexham are in the last leg of their player exodus. Though the departure updates have come a bit too fast recently, it’s been very sensible business from the Reds.

The best of all is how Wrexham have patiently waited for their exits. Be it McClean’s emotional home return, Mullin’s links with Parky’s ex-club, or Hardie’s League One talks, the Reds have been on a roll of right decisions.

Interestingly, the surging transfer update for Elliot Lee adds to another one of Wrexham’s mastermoves.

Having been left hanging by a club before, Wrexham’s wait in deciding Lee’s future has paid off handsomely. With the club hero touted for an iconic reunion with his former club, Elliot Lee’s game time desire can turn true in the best way possible.

It’s Luton Town that has shown interest in signing their promotion hero again. Sportsboom updated about the club’s interest, quoting: “Luton Town are pushing for a sensational return for Elliot Lee this month. The 31-year-old playmaker, surplus at Wrexham, could be back at Kenilworth Road until the end of the season.”

Elliot Lee’s previous spell at Luton Town

Despite donning multiple kits in his career, Elliot Lee has seen his name on Luton’s books for the longest time. With some loans and a couple of promotions included, Lee’s Luton Town career was a rollercoaster ride.

Talking of his best club moments, Elliot Lee achieved back-to-back promotions with Luton in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 campaigns. In the club’s jump from League Two to League One and then to the Championship, Lee stood as a pivotal pillar in their success.

Statistically, Elliot Lee had 29 goal contributions in this consecutive promotion success. However, he fell from his Luton prominence much sooner than expected.

With Graeme Jones’ arrival for the 2019/20 Championship campaign, Lee saw minutes come very rarely. After an inaugural start in the League opener, Lee didn’t feature often in the Championship division despite playing a crucial role in their promotion to the division.

While the return of gaffer Nathan Jones improved Lee’s Luton status at the end of the season, he couldn’t succeed more with the Hatters.

Ultimately, he would see two consecutive loan spells in the next seasons while Luton fared out in the Championship. After an underwhelming League One stint with Charlton, Elliot Lee made a move to the National League for Wrexham.

Luton homecoming can be a perfect comeback for Lee

Having spent the majority of 25/26 season out injured after being a pioneer in Wrexham’s back to back to back promotions, Lee has been undone by fate. From rarely ever missing a Reds game to spending his time on the sidelines, it’s been a Luton repeat for the 31-year-old.

That’s why, though Elliot Lee’s departure comes hard for Wrexham fans, a Luton return makes perfect sense.

Even keeping his sporting struggles aside, Elliot Lee’s Luton story misses a final chapter. Having been limited to the bench after heavy lifting the Hatters’ way into the Championship, the attacking midfielder deserves a final chance to write off a better ending.

What better opportunity than this? Given Luton bolster a promotion charge towards the Championship again. Currently sitting 9th in the League One table, Lee can resurrect their way up again.

On one hand, a homecoming for their club hero favours Luton, while a known atmosphere gives Lee the confidence to score goals again. Given his League One track record, Elliot Lee is bound to succeed if he signs up for Luton until the end of the season.

Overall, Elliot Lee to Luton Town makes complete sense. Should a move go through, Wrexham fans can forget the gutted feeling from his last transfer fallout.
