2 Wrexham players enjoyed strong loan debuts at their respective new clubs over the weekend while Phil Parkinson’s men beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.

The 30th Championship matchday was brilliant from Wrexham’s point of view. 3 points added in the bag without much hassle against Sheffield Wednesday, and the grip on the top 6 playoffs spot strengthened even further. The Reds were closely followed by Bristol City, Preston North End and Watford before the matchweek began.

All 3 of them went winless during this round with Bristol City suffering a 5-0 humiliation to forget in their backyard. Preston North End got pegged back to a late 1-1 Ipswich Town draw while Watford were dismantled by Wrexham’s Welsh peers Swansea City. Now, all that is left for Wrexham fans is to hope for a strong finish to the January transfer window.

Elsewhere, former Reds are also winning with fan favourite James McClean getting his hands on the President’s Cup with Derry City. Add 2 more Wrexham loanees to this list. They also enjoyed strong loan debuts at their respective new clubs while getting off to a league win each.

Conor Coady

Upon arriving at Charlton Athletic, Wrexham fans expected the Addicks fans to lament Conor Coady’s signing. Instead, the Charlton fans were all pumped up to see Coady in the building and somehow, the 32-year-old has set foot on a positive note.

Against his former club Leicester City, Coady was tipped to start immediately despite joining his new side in midweek. He did, but not at centre-back. Instead, Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones deployed Coady as a defensive midfielder to keep the dynamic Foxes midfield in check.

That unexpected decision worked like a charm with Coady blocking and intercepting a handful of dangerous attacks himself. Phil Parkinson never saw Coady as a midfield material, which wasn’t a mistake on his part. There was never a need for more midfielders at Wrexham with Matty James, Ben Sheaf and George Dobson being massive standouts this season.

Still, full credit to Nathan Jones for utilizing Coady well and winning a big game doing that. The Addicks are next up against fellow London counterparts QPR at home. Should Coady remain impressive again, Wrexham fans can start to dream about recouping a significant portion of the £2m transfer fees they invested in Coady last summer.

Paul Mullin

The legendary Wrexham striker also sealed a midweek transfer, joining League One promotion hopefuls Bradford City on a six-month loan. Jetting back to the third tier wasn’t something new for Mullin who was straightaway named on the Bantams bench against Doncaster Rovers.

A home game and taking Doncaster’s struggling campaign into account, it made sense why Bradford put Mullin to races from the very beginning. Following a goalless first half, the home side turned to Paul Mullin in search of goals around the hour mark.

Although he couldn’t find the back of the net, Mullin had a decent cameo as a targetman who repeatedly put pressure on the Doncaster defence. Ten minutes before the full-time whistle, Mullin’s Bradford side got the go-ahead 1-0 goal which later proved to be the difference on the night.
