Wrexham flop Ryan Hardie turns down Bolton Wanderers and Plymouth Argyle for their League One rivals Huddersfield Town on loan.

Wrexham were quite inactive in the January transfer window for the first four weeks. However, the past 3 days saw the Reds announce 3 newcomers namely Zak Vyner, Bailey Cadamarteri and Davis Keillor-Dunn. On the exit front, Wrexham picked up speed and dashed multiple players out who were deemed unable to contribute anything to Phil Parkinson’s current scheme of things.

That included saying heavy goodbyes to the likes of Paul Mullin, Andy Cannon and Elliot Lee. In comparison, offloading flop summer signing Conor Coady was easy and hassle-free. Wish it was this easy with loaning out Ryan Hardie too, whose winter transfer saga was no less than a rollercoaster of rumours.

First, it was League One promotion contenders Bolton Wanderers who came knocking for Hardie. Then, the 28-year-old’s former employers Plymouth Argyle followed. A Pilgrims homecoming made full sense for Wrexham hoping to get rid of the striker and replace him with young legs, which the club succeeded in doing later.

Hardie also packed his bags to see out this campaign elsewhere, but neither for Bolton Wanderers nor at Plymouth Argyle.

Wrexham flop Ryan Hardie joins Huddersfield Town on loan

Instead, Ryan Hardie snubbed Bolton Wanderers and Plymouth Argyle for a six-month loan spell at their League One rivals Huddersfield Town. In their own words, Wrexham announced this deadline day switch saying: “Ryan Hardie has joined Huddersfield Town on loan for the remainder of the season.”

From the standings point of view, picking Huddersfield Town as his next destination isn’t silly on Hardie’s part. The Terriers are running in Bolton’s shadows with only 4 points separating the two sides. As for Plymouth, it’s safe to say that they are no match for Huddersfield Town in the ongoing campaign.

Also, Ryan Hardie isn’t the only figure at Huddersfield Town who has a point to prove to his doubters. Their new boss Liam Manning has also been showered with immense Championship criticism in his former role as Norwich City manager. Manning went to the Canaries on the back of a playoffs qualifying run with Bristol City, but an awful start to the season ruined his second tier reputation.

Hence, a possible promotion at Huddersfield Town will be a massive comeback for Manning. As a collective, the Blue and Whites have fallen from Premier League grace to now even out of the Championship for two years now. These struggle stories speak loudly why Huddersfield Town and Liam Manning have opted to bring Ryan Hardie in their shared goal to jump back to the Championship.

When can Ryan Hardie make his Huddersfield Town debut?

While Wrexham pipped Sheffield Wednesday with a 1-0 result on Saturday, Huddersfield Town also got the better of Peterborough United with a 3-2 win. Similar to the Reds, the Terriers also have a home game coming on the weekend against Blackpool.

Most probably, the Scottish striker will mark his debut there. On a personal level, that will be a nostalgic evening for Hardie because he has lined up for Blackpool in the past. Right after leaving his boyhood club Rangers, Hardie packed his bags for Blackpool on a permanent basis but couldn’t do much of note there.

He did score a goal in Blackpool’s colours but his big breakthrough came immediately next with a Plymouth Argyle switch. Hardie has played League One football for both Blackpool and Plymouth meaning Huddersfield Town will be his third club at third-tier level. Out of his first two League One stints, Hardie will hope to replicate his Plymouth Argyle success at the Terriers.

Therefore, a strong start against Blackpool is needed. Let’s see whether Hardie can get off to a scoring start at his new club.
