‘Unless’ – Phil Parkinson will leave Wrexham only on one condition

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have revealed that Phil Parkinson will leave Wrexham only on one condition.

The 2-0 Millwall defeat has dimmed moods among Wrexham fans since yesterday. More than anything, the Reds fanbase can’t digest the fact that a strong opportunity to hit 50 league points and safeguard the promotion spot even further has been put to waste.

Simply put, that’s the nature of a league defeat. But that doesn’t mean, Wrexham should forget the high-flying ride the club has achieved in a matter of two months. When the Reds went down 2-1 to Swansea City, it felt like the club had reached its ceiling with boss Phil Parkinson.

The same win, draw and then go back to square one with a crushing defeat was a routine pattern back in early December. Fast forward to the next 10 games, Phil Parkinson has led this same Wrexham side to 7 wins, a draw and two narrow 2-1 defeats across all competitions. Once again, Parkinson has proved why he sits in the Wrexham dugout to this day.

Phil Parkinson will leave Wrexham only on one condition

Every time there are whispers of him leaving, the Englishman turns the tide around and wins over the Reds fans. The supporters may not say it out loud, but a majority of Wrexham fans fear the possibility of Phil Parkinson leaving Wrexham one day.

Touchwood, but the club’s Hollywood owners have named one condition where Wrexham will part ways with Parkinson. In his own words, the Athletic quoted Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac admitting: “From our perspective, he’s got the job for life. Unless he finds another job he wants to go off and do, he’s our coach. He’s our manager. He’s our guy.”

With those words, it’s safe to say that Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham future is in his own hands. Complete the set with a fourth promotion and manage Wrexham in the Premier League. Or, try your best in the Championship and if nothing meaningful comes out of it, then, walk away from the Racecourse with your head held high.

Greatest Wrexham managers of all time

Running in his fifth season, Phil Parkinson has already gained a legendary status at Wrexham. The only thing that can change from now is how well he will be remembered among the greatest Wrexham managers of all time.

Right off the bat, Brian Flynn, Dean Saunders and Denis Smith come to mind whenever the topic of Wrexham’s best managers emerges. With 12 years at the Racecourse, Brian Flynn is the biggest household name for fans in this list.

During his tenure, Wrexham used to average a modest 1.44 points per game but had the luxury of fourth tier and occasionally, third tier football on the table. Since the iconic 1978-79 Championship season, those Brian Flynn days were the best times Wrexham fans enjoyed back then.

Then, Denis Smith followed. His 6 years started on a strong note with consistent football league status and a 2004/05 Football League Trophy. However, the final years of Dean Smith era saw Wrexham placed into administration and later, going down to non-league football. Many years later, Dean Saunders tried guiding the Reds back in League Two.

In the 2010/11 season, Saunders sparked hopes of Wrexham’s fourth-tier return only to see those dreams quashed with a 5-1 Luton Town playoffs humiliation across two legs. Talking of Phil Parkinson, he has taken Wrexham to better tiers than the above respected names.

With 3 promotions already under his best, Parkinson is only a Premier League promotion away from being the undisputed greatest Wrexham manager of all time.
