A day before the Charlton Athletic visit, George Dobson reveals Wrexham dressing room’s mood on facing Chelsea in the FA Cup.
Former Ipswich Town stars Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead came on the scoresheet for Wrexham in the 5-3 win over Ipswich Town. Club captain Dom Hyam stepped up in defence while playing against old club Blackburn Rovers.
Injured man Ben Sheaf also maintained high standards against his former club Coventry City during Wrexham’s 3-2 win. Looking at these examples, it’s fair from the fans to expect a standout midfield display from George Dobson in front of his former employers Charlton Athletic.
George Dobson Charlton Athletic career
George Dobson stayed at Charlton Athletic for 3 years prior to joining Wrexham on a free transfer in 2024. During that time, he surpassed the hundred appearances mark for the Addicks which is where the 28-year-old has spent the most time in his senior level career.
At Charlton Athletic, Dobson quickly cemented himself as a regular starter and wore the captain’s armband as well. All of his three campaigns with the Addicks came in League One where the current Wrexham man was a level above most of the division’s top midfielders.

On the manager side, Dobson worked with as many as 9 different bosses at Charlton Athletic, including Nathan Jones in his final year at the Valley. With this, it goes without saying that Dobson will be a familiar face for everyone at Charlton Athletic from the dressing room to the fans.
George Dobson reveals Wrexham mood on FA Cup Chelsea tie
For all of his brilliant Charlton Athletic past, Dobson hails from the Wrexham camp nowadays. He will wish to secure a third win over his old club since leaving, after a 3-0 League One rout and a narrow 1-0 home win in the Championship.
But here’s the catch. The FA Cup tie vs Chelsea is exactly seven days after the Charlton Athletic clash. No matter how much Wrexham legend Mickey Thomas labels that Chelsea evening as a meaningless match, the Reds will be feeling the butterflies as the date comes closer.
Even Dobson couldn’t resist glancing over the upcoming Chelsea meeting. He touched down on the build-up of the Blues afternoon and also revealed the Wrexham dressing room’s mood over it.

In his own words, the Leader Live quoted Dobson saying: “It’s full focus on Charlton because we know how important that game is. When we come back in on Monday, the excitement leading into that one will be there because it is going to be a fantastic occasion. But before Saturday, there definitely won’t be any talk about the Chelsea game.”
To be honest, that’s quite sensible from the Reds squad to not let the FA Cup emotions compromise the playoffs race. Wrexham do have a 4 point advantage over nearest rivals Southampton at seventh spot. That means Phil Parkinson’s men won’t lose their top 6 status overnight even if they failed to claim a Charlton Athletic win.
But the uncomfortable part is, Wrexham can’t let the winning streak go to their head. Southampton have the easiest game in the second-tier tomorrow against Sheffield Wednesday which they will likely win with a massive scoreline. Bristol City have also got a relatively easy opponent in Watford.
As such, there are still open chances that some teams displace Wrexham from the sixth place in the table. Let’s hope that never happens until May.
