‘Hamstring’ – Wrexham set for 2 more Chelsea FA Cup absences after George Dobson

Phil Parkinson issues concerning updates on Issa Kabore and Nathan Broadhead, with the duo likely to miss the Chelsea clash alongside teammate George Dobson.

Recently, Wrexham were dealt a major blow when George Dobson was deemed doubtful for the FA Cup contest against Chelsea. While that left a significant gap in the Reds’ midfield, it turns out they have more injury concerns to address before the Cup knockout.

Earlier, only Dobson’s participation stood in jeopardy against Chelsea. Now, he has been joined by teammates Issa Kabore and Nathan Broadhead, as boss Phil Parkinson delivers bad news on the duo’s fitness.

In his media address ahead of the Chelsea knockout, Parky looked a bit worried while delivering the injury updates to the excited fans. The manager tried his best not to overstress the absences.

While speaking on Issa Kabore, Parkinson mentioned: “I mean Izzy Kabore’s… He got a bit of tightness in his hamstring. It’s not the one he had a problem with before, so we’re not overly concerned about it.”

Though Parky has clarified that Kabore’s recent hamstring issue isn’t related to his previous injury earlier this season, it’s unlikely that the wing-back will feature against Chelsea. The same is true for Nathan Broadhead after he took a whack against Charlton last week.

Parky talked about Broadhead’s concern, saying: “Um, and Broady obviously got the whack in that other challenge, which the ref decided wasn’t a free kick. And um, so yeah, we’ve got… we’ve got a few kind of issues obviously.”

Issa Kabore & Broadhead are likely to miss Chelsea contest

After recovering from his late November hamstring issues, Issa Kabore has been sensational for Wrexham. Before suffering the recent hamstring problem, Kabore had started seven consecutive games in the league.

Kabore’s prominence in the wing-back role has seen him sideline Ryan Longman from the starting XI. The full-back’s work rate in defence has improved markedly, while his offensive contributions have always been excellent.

However, his brilliant run has been hit by injury once again. While Kabore & Cup games have barely been a match this season, the full-back is likely to miss Wrexham’s most important clash of 2026 so far.

On the other hand, Nathan Broadhead’s case has been far more intriguing for Wrexham fans. Even though the attacker has shown flashes of his best, he has lacked the continuity to fully showcase his talent for the club.

Be it for timely rests or unforeseen injuries, Broadhead has yet to enjoy a consistent run in the starting XI for Wrexham.

In his last FA Cup outing against Nottingham Forest, Broadhead starred with an assist for Rathbone’s 2-0 goal. This time, Wrexham is set to miss one of their few players with Premier League pedigree as they lock horns with a Big Six club in Chelsea.

Who will replace Kabore and Broadhead vs Chelsea?

No doubt, the recent injuries to Issa Kabore & Nathan Broadhead come as major concerns for Wrexham. However, boss Phil Parkinson might have a solution worked out in mind to replace the duo against Chelsea.

Notably, neither Kabore nor Broadhead started the 4th round FA Cup game against Ipswich last month. But thanks to great shifts from Ryan Longman & Josh Windass in the duo’s places, Wrexham got the better of a challenging Championship opponent to advance to the 5th round.

Phil Parkinson will need to turn to the match-winning duo once again for the FA Cup clash. Last time when Longman & Windass started together, the former assisted the latter with a perfect cross to beat Ipswich. This time, the duo will have to deliver one such Cup display again to fancy Wrexham’s chances against Chelsea.

While replacing Kabore and Broadhead is easier said than done, given the specific roles they fill, their absence leaves Wrexham’s bench looking bare bones. With no Sheaf, no Dobson, no Matty James, no Kabore, and no Broadhead, fans might see some forgotten players named among the substitutes.

Notably, players like Jay Rodriguez, Lewis Brunt, and Ryan Barnett can get some minutes off the bench against Chelsea. Though chances are that Wrexham Vs Chelsea concludes within the regular 90 minutes, the Reds can have their woes increased if Parky is forced to put multiple non-starters on the pitch in the extra time.

But it all depends on how the highly anticipated clash unfolds at the Racecourse. Let’s see what happens when Wrexham take on Chelsea in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
