‘Well done’ – Bailey Cadamarteri impresses Wrexham fans on debut in 2-1 loss

Wrexham’s winter striker signing Bailey Cadamarteri impresses fans after his positive Wrexham debut in the 2-1 Championship defeat against Hull City.

At long last, Wrexham have finally tasted two consecutive defeats in 2026. The Reds were awful at Chelsea ever since the final fifteen minutes were left to go in the FA Cup tie. Yesterday’s 2-1 Hull City defeat was the exact opposite of the Chelsea game.

Wrexham got off to a horrible first half start which was quite odd to see from them in recent times. Hull bagged the go-ahead 1-0 goal and never had any issues unlocking the Reds defence at will. In fact, Wrexham fans will admit that only going 1-0 down at the break was a blessing in disguise for Phil Parkinson’s men.

On a bad day, the Reds would have ended 3-0 down before the second half with virtually no chances left of pulling a comeback. Hull City kept flocking in with more scoring opportunities and got a deserved second goal.

Nathan Broadhead came on the scoresheet later with a calm 2-1 finish but that was it. No comeback happened, and the only positive for the fanbase was Bailey Cadamarteri’s long-awaited debut.

Bailey Cadamarteri impresses Wrexham fans on debut

The 20 year old former Owls striker was lured to the Racecourse on deadline day, over a month ago. His fellow new signings Davis Keillor-Dunn and Zak Vyner had appeared in a Wrexham shirt a fair few times until now but Cadamarteri had to wait longer for his turn.

That came against Hull City in a stunning substitute cameo. All it took Cadamarteri was 3 minutes to justify why Wrexham came calling for him despite having enough strikers already. Callum Doyle teed up Cadamarteri on the left, who then laid a first time cross to an on-rushing Jay Rodriguez.

However, Rodriguez diverted it wide from close range. One Wrexham fan said on this moment: “Well done great cross for jayrod to spurn”

Other supporters also joined in praising Cadamarteri and simultaneously lamenting Rodriguez’s miss. Another Wrexham fan noted: “That cross to jay rod was really made out of nothing but of course jay rod had to miss”

A third one added: “(Cadamarteri) Almost got the tying assist if it wasn’t for Rodriguez being useless like always”

More criticism for the veteran 36-year-old followed. Despite that, Cadamarteri’s early glimpses at Hull City have given more confidence to fans who were really skeptical to test out a young forward amidst the business end of the season.

Well, now there is basically no reason to downplay Cadamarteri’s importance for the playoffs push. Kieffer Moore has twisted his hamstring, Jay Rodriguez is utterly wasteful at the moment so it’s all down to Sam Smith to lead the line.

The Wrexham fanbase wants Cadamarteri in supporting act up front. Another fan suggested: “Not ruling him out maybe starting on Friday, smudge can’t start every game & does need a well earned breather & with moore out bailey could be answer”

Let’s see if Phil Parkinson gives a thought to starting Cadamarteri on the upcoming must-win game against Swansea City.
