Sky Sports mistakes Wrexham for Premier League club after Watford defeat

Sky Sports mistakes Wrexham for a Premier League club after the 3-1 away defeat at Watford in the 38th Championship matchday.

Wrexham’s 3-1 away defeat to Watford was quite similar to the Hull City loss that came at the Racecourse nine days ago. The Reds were defensively exposed at the back, had only one decent effort up front and fell down to a 2-0 scoreline at the break.

Honestly, it’s all down to injuries at the moment. Wrexham are plagued with injuries to Kieffer Moore, Matty James, Liberato Cacace and on top of that came George Dobson’s 3-game suspension.

That pretty much sums up why Phil Parkinson’s men seem lost in the first 45 minutes of the match nowadays. Watford was the Red Dragons’ second league defeat in March. Add yesterday’s Southampton win over Norwich City and that means Wrexham sit outside of the playoffs places for the first time in 2 months.

Going by the recent form, it’s looking more inevitable that Premier League football might not be on the cards for Wrexham in 2026. Amidst all these miseries, Sky Sports have just mistaken Wrexham for a Premier League club out of nowhere.

Sky Sports mistakes Wrexham for Premier League club

It’s that time of the season where Sky Sports and multiple pundits keep an eye on the Premier League promotion race. Wrexham’s 3-1 Watford defeat is a big talking point in the playoffs race. In covering that, Sky Sports made a silly error that makes it seem like Wrexham were playing in the Premier League.

In their own words, Sky Sports posted the Wrexham vs Watford match highlights with the caption: “Bees sting Wrexham to blow play-off race wide open!”

I know you are also puzzled right now. Watford are not called the “Bees”. Instead, Watford fans call their team “The Hornets” and it’s Brentford who are associated with the “Bees” nickname.

FA Cup and Carabao Cup football are already over for Wrexham this season. Hence, there is only one way they can play the real “Bees” Brentford right now. That is by being a Premier League side.

Wrexham fans react to Sky Sports Wrexham mistake

It’s quite shocking that Sky Sports messed up between Watford and Brentford. However, the fans are having a good laugh over the situation. One Wrexham fan made a sarcastic remark saying: “Didn’t realise we played Brentford”

Others saw it as a good opportunity to boast of Premier League football which is not a far-fetched thought at the Racecourse anymore. Another Wrexham fan added: “Practicing for when Brentford play them in the premier league next season”

Hopefully, Wrexham still get their act together and somehow make it to the playoffs. And a bit beyond to the Premier League so they actually get to play Brentford in a league game.

Brentford going down to the Championship will also work for a Wrexham vs Brentford league fixture. Another Wrexham fan joked at it saying: “Did I miss Brentford getting relegated to the Championship?”

Well, jokes apart Brentford were really a second tier outfit at the start of this decade. It was during the 2020/21 season when they got up to the Premier League and have consolidated themselves in the top-flight ever since then.

Can Wrexham go on to have a similar Premier League story as Brentford in a few years? Only time will tell.
