Zak Vyner’s motivation for tomorrow’s Sheffield United clash is a must for both Wrexham and the fans fearing Southampton in the playoffs race.
Wrexham were 14th the last time they met Sheffield United in the Championship. What followed then was an unforgettable 5-3 win that set the tone for the Reds fightback in the second half of the season.
Now at 7th, Wrexham are surely in a position where they no longer have to worry about wins and a potential relegation unlike in December. But just like every second-tier club, Wrexham won’t wish to settle for a top 10 place while there is time to eye a sixth spot in the table.
Sheffield United, led by Chris Wilder will set out for a Wrexham revenge undoubtedly. Their boss Wilder admitted having a Wrexham shirt in the dressing room to motivate his squad. And what better than proving themselves against Wrexham in front of the Blades fans.
It’s safe to say that Sheffield United have enough reasons to spoil Wrexham’s playoffs push fully knowing that theirs is well out of question. On the other hand, the Reds are still short of multiple key players for tomorrow.
Zak Vyner’s Wrexham motivation for Sheffield United
A win at Bramall Lane will thus need multiple standout performances from the senior Wrexham players. Zak Vyner is among the most experienced heads at Wrexham. On this Sheffield United occasion, he has sent a motivation that applies to both Wrexham and the fans.

In his own words, Wrexham’s official website quoted Zak Vyner saying: “There’s no point looking at like, they’ve done this and they’ve done that, there’s just no point. You’ve got to just focus on yourself and make sure that we’re all ready here to put a good performance out and get three points on the weekend.”
Honestly, Zak Vyner is right to urge Wrexham to stay level-headed at Sheffield United. The tie is neither won nor lost yet, just because the Reds are going through a rough patch in the league.
Last season, Zak Vyner’s Bristol City were hammered 6-0 on aggregate by Sheffield United in the playoffs semi-finals. Still, he and Bristol City didn’t let that lowdown affect them ahead of their 2025/26 season opener vs Sheffield United.
Infact, his Bristol City team humiliated Sheffield United 4-1 and got their revenge.
Wrexham fans shouldn’t fear Southampton
Zak Vyner’s motivation also applies to Wrexham fans as well. A large section of the Wrexham fanbase is busy worrying over Southampton’s results.

Who knows, the Saints might drop points tomorrow and fall behind Wrexham when nobody expects them to lose vs Oxford United. As far as stats are concerned, there is no doubt Southampton are sitting 16 places above Oxford United.
The Saints are inside the playoffs zone while The U’s can’t find a way past the relegation zone. But don’t worry, Wrexham fans. Oxford United has shown they are more than capable of causing Championship upsets against teams lying at the top end of the table.
This season, Oxford United defeated Bristol City 3-1 when the Robins were third in the first half of the season. Then, they also stunned Ipswich Town 2-1 and even Southampton 2-1 at home.
Most recently, Oxford United are on a four game unbeaten streak that includes a hat-trick of wins against West Brom, Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers. Hence, let’s hope for the best that Wrexham wins on the weekend and Southampton drops points against Oxford United.
