Josh Windass settles the Wayne Rooney vs Neymar debate (Wrexham fans will agree)

Josh Windass settles the Wayne Rooney vs Neymar debate. Wrexham fans will agree with his opinion on the matter.

These days, the Wayne Rooney vs Neymar debate has taken over football. A few days ago, Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney ruled out counting Neymar among world-class players. Like every football debate, this Rooney opinion has divided fans and media all over the world.

On one hand, the English media and majority of former Premier League stars are supporting Wayne Rooney as a better player than Neymar. Same way, multiple Brazil fans and ex-players have jumped to Neymar’s defence.

Currently, both of them aren’t playing at the top level. Wayne Rooney has retired years ago while Neymar is in the latter stages of his career at boyhood club Santos. That said, it’s impossible for the duo to come face-to-face on the pitch and decide it out.

But that’s where Wrexham comes in the picture. The Reds squad has also heard these Wayne Rooney-Neymar debates throughout this week and Josh Windass in particular has come forward to settle the conversation.

Josh Windass was the biggest reason behind Wrexham’s inspiring 2-1 comeback at Sheffield United. The 32-year-old former Owls star netted against his old Steel City rivals and laid the foundation for the Reds snapping up all three points from Bramall Lane.

Following the 2-1 win, Windass was quite active on his Instagram like he always does. Beneath his match post, his Wrexham teammate Dan Scarr popped up with the Wayne Rooney vs Neymar debate. Moments later, Josh Windass came up with the response which nobody expected.

In his own words, Josh Windass responded: “neither get in our team”

At first glance, it’s easy to say that Windass left the debate wide open for fans. However, his opinion isn’t different from what Wrexham fans think of outrageous transfer rumours that keep coming up every now and then.

The summer transfer window will arrive in two months. There, Wrexham will again get linked with superstar names like Sergio Ramos, Paul Pogba and Raheem Sterling out of nowhere.

In almost all cases, these rumours are just mild speculations that arise when a couple of former players talk about Wrexham’s rise in English football. Fans are also convinced those high-profile moves won’t happen at Wrexham.

Especially those players, who are over the age of 30 and have left the Europe’s top 5 leagues many years before. Still, the best part about transfer rumours is that they keep Wrexham fans engaged with “what if” thoughts on these moves.

Plus, even if players like Wayne Rooney or Neymar come to Wrexham some day there are no guarantees that they will steal the show here. Neymar never played in England on his part while Rooney has completed more than 5 years of his retirement at Derby County.

At this age, both of them will struggle to match the pace needed to thrive in the Championship, and beyond to the Premier League. That’s not even considering the enormous wages Wrexham will have to shell out for such star players with next to no substantial return of investment expected on the pitch.

All in all, it’s better for Wrexham to avoid superstar signings and instead focus on making strategic Premier League moves like Harry Wilson and Andy Robertson.
