Birmingham boss sack decision

Birmingham City aren’t hesitating to sack promotion winning boss Chris Davies after a string of poor Championship results unlike Wrexham.

The big New Year’s Eve is around the corner, but it’s unfolding like a story of 2 opposite halves for the Championship and the world outside. While everyone else is popping crackers, the players and staff have their futures up in the air.

And the reason? Statistically, the year-end period in November & December sees the most manager dismissals. To say it’s followed by the uncertain yet exciting January winter window says everything.

Hype up Wrexham fans, as this holiday season presents a once-in-a-lifetime convergence between these two events. Yesterday, many Championship bosses had their fragile job safeties known, and it’s only getting crazier at the tip of the new year.

As you’d know, Dragons had their contender in Phil Parkinson, ranked at the 19th worst spot. Not too dangerous for one of the worst Championship stat holders, right? No more, as Birmingham boss Chris Davies’ marquee update changes it all.

In Football League World’s safety list(last updated before Matchday 22), Davies finished at a fair 16th spot. But a shameful 0-3 result this weekend has surprisingly pushed the gaffer the closest to a year-end exit gate.

Credit to Football Insider sources, this away embarrassment has Davies a foot outside Birmingham’s offices, already. To note, the 40-year-old has been issued a final 2-game ultimatum by ambitious owners who are keen on a promotion.

Legibly, it was all normal until this. What’s quite interesting further is that Birmingham’s management has started its search for Davies’ successor, even though his fate is to be decided in the next games.

Wrexham must learn from Birmingham’s proactive approach

Be honest, Wrexham fans, this Birmingham action plan has each of us envying their owners. No, no fan can be ungrateful to Rob and Ryan, who’ve been surreal so far, but this approach demands praise.

Not to forget, Blues boss Chris Davies had set up an all-time League One record with a 111-point finish with Birmingham last season. With a 19-point stretch, the boss shattered Wrexham’s dreams of a league title by a mile.

Yet, witnessing the owners’ no-slip tolerance with Davies increases admiration for Tom Wagner & Tom Brady’s ambitions.

Agreed, Birmingham’s marathon wait in the second division calls for no patience. But if Davies is facing the stick despite a better standing than Parky’s Wrexham, the Welsh club needs to enforce strict practices too.

What should Wrexham do in Phil Parkinson’s case?

As an avid fan myself, the easy solution is to demand a procedure very similar to Birmingham’s. Yet, what needs to be widely understood is that this option is neither available nor viable in Wrexham’s case.

Undisputedly, Parky has been the architect of Rob & Ryan’s vision in this Wrexham’s back-to-back-to-back success. But does that mean the club ought to continue as it is? Not at all.

Appreciably, the fans’ reaction after the Welsh derby defeat has stirred waves in boss Parky’s offices for sure. And to not lose the fanbase’s support, the Hollywood owners owe an appropriate action to them.

Honestly, copying Birmingham’s harsh plan seems a bit too much, yet taking a leaf from their action step may help.

Currently, on a 5-game winless streak, Wrexham can try setting up a cut-off date for improvement. Up next, the club has a challenging schedule to close the year, and it ought to be the best time for Parky’s final test.

Should Wrexham steer through against Sheffield and PNE with appreciable results, Phil Parkinson stays. Otherwise, the club shouldn’t hesitate to move ahead of the 58-year-old if they’re to keep their promotion hopes alive.

Again, the final decision to keep or let go of Parky needs to be made quickly. Should that not happen, Wrexham may find itself muddled with an uncomfortable start in 2026.
