Crystal Palace’s stance on Sidiki Cherif is crystal clear for Wrexham to see during the January transfer window.
Tomorrow, Wrexham are in for a tricky away day against QPR in the Championship. The past winless week has soured promotion moods at the Racecourse, still, what has kept the Reds fanbase most occupied amidst these matches? Transfer rumours.
Especially, the £19m Sidiki Cherif one that doesn’t cease to amaze Wrexham fans even when an important Championship fixture is around the corner. Being honest, the fanbase is more excited to know whether Wrexham will pull the trigger with an official 19m bid than thinking how good Cherif can turn to be at the Racecourse.
Plus, there is the added subplot of a Premier League competition in the form of Crystal Palace which is enough to keep the Red Dragons fanbase glued onto their screens.

So far, boss Phil Parkinson’s stance on this Sidiki Cherif scenario has surfaced. The Reds gaffer is neither fully Cherif-in nor Cherif-out, however, at some stage Wrexham does need to anticipate the balance of this Cherif pursuit.
Crystal Palace’s stance on Sidiki Cherif transfer
Thankfully, Crystal Palace’s stance on Sidiki Cherif transfer has come out. In a way, the Eagles are also open to all possibilities as Phil Parkinson and that means having a suitable backup plan in place as well.
In the words of journalist Ben Jacobs: “Genoa’s Jeff Ekhator is an option for Crystal Palace if they fail to secure Sidiki Cherif. 19-year-old also has interest from Portugal. Genoa are prepared to sanction a sale for around €18m and have had direct approaches this winter for the Italy Under-21 striker.”
Now, there are a ton of similarities between Ekhator and Cherif that justify exactly why Palace won’t be stressed out with Wrexham’s presence on the Cherif deal. To start with, both of them have climbed the academy ladders at Angers and Genoa, where they are currently leading the line for the first team as a young striker.

Then, their goal returns are almost identical for the 2025/26 season with Cherif boasting 4 strikes to his name as compared to Ekhator’s 3 across all competitions. Their transfer fees for a mid-season swoop are nearly the same, hence, Crystal Palace are well placed to snap atleast one of them in any case.
What next for Wrexham in Sidiki Cherif transfer saga?
If Wrexham signs Sidiki Cherif, then there can be a weird dressing room crossover between the club’s most expensive striker and the Reds modern-day legend Paul Mullin. If Wrexham wish to avoid taking excessive risks in January, then Davis Keillor-Dunn could be a low-cost alternative to stock the attacking ranks.
In both cases, chasing Jeff Ekhator to pile transfer pressure on Crystal Palace doesn’t make any sense. Often, English teams try hijacking other clubs transfer targets whenever they face difficulties getting theirs. In reality, this move fails everytime barring a few exceptions.
Hence, if Wrexham have done their thorough scouting on Cherif and they are still convinced the 19-year-old can level up Phil Parkinson’s squad, then good sign the player. Otherwise, spare the funds for further recruitments in the June transfer window which is less than 6 months away from now.
