‘Not just’ – Ex-Leicester and West Brom star has immense respect for Wrexham

Ex-Leicester City and West Brom star Curtis Davies showers immense respect for Wrexham. Wrexham fans will agree with Curtis Davies’ comments.

The English media often measures Wrexham’s success by the number of promotions the team keeps achieving. Honestly, nothing is wrong in that but the way in which Phil Parkinson’s men are portrayed for the following season is lamentable.

When Wrexham jumped from the National League to League Two, many pundits were busy pitying the Reds for a relegation-battling season ahead. That didn’t happen. Instead, Wrexham got promoted to the League One where again there were constant whispers that the third-tier football might be beyond Wrexham’s level.

The Reds marched on to another promotion to reach the Championship. It’s the closest division to the Premier League still Wrexham were tipped for a hard time staving off relegation at the first time of asking. Those were the narratives everywhere during until last September.

In March 2026, Wrexham are at a stage where the next eight games can possibly earn them a place in the two-legged playoffs semi finals. Even if the Reds don’t make it there, this current top 10 situation is far better than what many former players and pundits envisioned for Wrexham.

Ex-Leicester and West Brom star praises Wrexham

Being a second tier team, Wrexham’s season can be compared to any Championship rival. The Reds have done poor in front of Coventry City, Middlesbrough and the rest of the clubs sitting above them.

But that also suggests Phil Parkinson’s seventh-placed side has bettered 17 clubs lying below them in the leaderboard. Thankfully, ex-Leicester and West Brom star Curtis Davies has come forward to give Wrexham the praise they have rarely received throughout this season.

In his own words, the Hajper quoted Curtis Davies saying: “There are bigger clubs in this division with more history in the league, but it’s the story that matters, and not just because of Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.”

And what better than Davies’ former clubs Leicester City and West Brom for an example? Both of them were together in the Premier League five years ago. In the 2023/24 season, Leicester City won the Championship title and West Brom had managed to earn a playoffs ticket although the Baggies were knocked out in the semi-finals itself.

Two years on from that 2023/24 campaign, both Leicester City and West Brom are struggling to defend their second-tier status for the upcoming season. As things stand, atleast one of them will head down to League One if not both of them.

2026/27 Premier League season can be unbelievable

Ten years ago, Leicester City stunned the Premier League by winning the 2015/16 title. In a few months, the Foxes might be forced to celebrate their 10th anniversary of the 2016 Premier League title win as a League One team. Hold on, there’s more Premier League surprises in the mix for the following season.

There’s a fair chance Wrexham can earn promotion to the Premier League. Same way, there is an unbelievable possibility of Tottenham Hotspur falling down to the Championship. Imagine a Big 6 team getting relegated to the second tier and replaced by Wrexham of all teams.

Exciting times are well and truly ahead for Wrexham fans. Let’s see how the playoffs push goes.
