Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano hints that Norwich can finalise Josh Sargent’s transfer soon, which would lead to him missing the next game against Wrexham.
Wrexham’s attacking front has been making headlines day by day in the English division. On the downside, the club’s gradual defensive discipline remains underappreciated despite being key in the process.
Notably, the Dragons’ back three had them battling till the very end against Nottingham in the recent FA Cup tie. While the club’s attacking creativity dried after Broadhead and Rathbone were withdrawn, Wrexham’s defence eventually took them over the line.
Safe to say, ever since the Sheffield United clash, Phil Parkinson and co have recouped a lot in backline stability. However, one cannot overlook the part luck has played in their favour throughout.
Starting with the Preston game, Wrexham got excused from facing Milutin Osmajic despite all the speculation. While no one knows what would happen if the striker featured, his inclusion would have gone against the Dragons’ favour.
Come next matchday, and something similar followed with Blackburn top-scorer Andri Gudjohnsen missing the clash. Though no absences were recorded in Derby’s game, the FA Cup matchday with Nottingham saw Chris Wood unavailable again.
Summarising, Wrexham have barely locked horns with a fully functional attacking unit in recent matchdays. To the Dragons’ surprise, this trend ought to continue as they prepare for the Norwich game next.
Norwich City close to finalizing Josh Sargent’s sale
As Ollie Rathbone is to Wrexham and fans, Josh Sargent is to Norwich’s attacking unit. Having bagged the club’s 2024/25 Player of the Year, the USMNT forward has been sensational for The Canaries since joining in 2021.
Going by numbers, Sargent found the net 15 times last Championship season despite missing a bunch of games. This year, the 25-year-old felt on track for a similar tally until a possible transfer switch caught him up.
As per Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, Norwich has partially made up their mind to let go of Sargent in January. Fabrizio summarised the upcoming deal, quoting: EXCL: “Toronto FC send official bid to Norwich for Josh Sargent worth $18m fee. Negotiations underway as NCFC are in talks over deal details. Sargent could head to the MLS soon.”
Given the report’s urgency, Josh Sargent could be well departed for Toronto before Norwich’s Wrexham clash. Eitherway, having been left out of their recent FA Cup matchday, Sargent’s unavailability can be taken as guaranteed.
Sargent’s absence means another win in the bag for Wrexham?
Coming in high spirits on the back of a 5/5 perfect streak, Sargent’s unavailability eases the task for Wrexham. However, Parky & co need to focus on winning the contest and not simply assume a victory.
That’s because, even without Josh Sargent, Norwich has in-form attackers in Jovon Makama and Mathias Kvistgaarden to rely on.
Talking of Makama, the centre-forward would be more than motivated for the Wrexham tie after being fresh from a first-hour hat-trick in the FA Cup. On the flip side, Sargent’s absence opens the door for Kvistgaarden, who’s been patiently waiting for his chance all this time.
To note, despite juggling their way out of the relegation zone, Norwich possesses an impressive attack. With Makama and Kvistgaarden alone combining for 13 goals, the Yellows bolster the top-scoring numbers among the bottommost sides.
Accounting for Max Cleworth’s possible injury miss in the game, it could be a rather close contest between both sides.
The last time Wrexham battled off Norwich, the Dragon fans were in for a thrilling comeback win. But this time around, the hope would be for a more comfortable and dominant win to bolster the promotion charge.
