Josh Windass’ dad, Dean Windass, has posted a cryptic message on Rangers transfer rumours that will give hope to Wrexham fans.
It hasn’t even been a week since former club hero Fletch recounted tale after tale of his nostalgic Wrexham diary. And while fans listened eagerly, it ain’t hidden that their hearts ached not to have him currently.
Agreed, it’s not strange for Dragons to repent for former stars, but you know there’s something wrong if the shouts come up in such numbers.
Well, the Fletch over Jay Rodriguez debate is how it seems on the surface. But the issue wouldn’t have emerged if Wrexham trusted a veteran Steven Fletcher for a couple more years, when Rodriguez was out injured in the summer of 2025.
I know, a lot of you’d recommend there’s no crying over spilt milk, but this lookback can’t be ignored, looking at the current Josh Windass situation.
It’s more than clear that no Dragons fan would ever want Windass recounting just a short and sweet, 6-month Wrexham tale in future. Yet, this possibility feels like karma for what they did to Fletch. Especially, given the transfer controversy similarity both of them saw last summer.
Honestly, Wrexham wouldn’t have even thought of getting Windass for free, even in their wildest dreams. And, with the player now linked to a Danny Rohl reunion at Rangers, the Dragons seem to be losing it all, instantly.
Dean Windass’s message offers hope to Wrexham
Ever since the Josh Windass saga surged yesterday, a key factor in his transfer possibility is speculated to be the player’s entourage. Windass himself, his family, friends and how well he’s suited in his current UK life.
Though not spoken out loud, such factors become much too important for a player who’s in his 30s now. Exactly, that’s what has sourced a ray of hope for the Wrexham fans, and they’d devour every bit of it.
Recently, amidst the transfer buzz surrounding Josh Windass, his father, Dean Windass, took to X to express his viewpoint on it. And though he never donned a Wrexham shirt himself, senior Windass might’ve just produced the biggest assist for the Dragons recently.
Dean Windass responded in a 2-emoji cryptic message, likely being surprised by what’s circulating.
Now, with no words involved, Dean Windass’s message remains open to subjective interpretations, but it’s clear that in all languages, he isn’t bought into the idea of his son returning to Rangers.
Is Josh Windass’ Wrexham stay confirmed now?
Long story short, the answer is a 99% yes, barring a 1% for football uncertainty. That one per cent is also for if and only if Rangers complement their Windass interest with an irrefutable offer to Wrexham.
As you would know, Wrexham’s success in recent years has been built on aligning veteran experience with a tinge of academy success, like Max Cleworth. Unequivocally, that has them spend a lot on player arrivals, under the glamouring reality of the club’s back-to-back-to-back promotions.
Now, I’m not implying that owners Rob & Ryan need funds from departures, that’s not the case at all. But the idea of a whopping loan offer, in the range of £3-4M, could trigger the less-likely possibility of Windass leaving temporarily.
To understand how grim such chances are, the Scottish division has historically earned the repute of a penny-pincher. With some of their all-time buys barely landing in the 8-figure territory, it’s almost impossible that Rangers come bidding for Windass’ loan with a handsome fee.
On the other hand, Wrexham’s recent fate has never seen them collect any departure fee worth even sharing in English standards.
With Windass’ transfer demanding a crossover of 2 such intricate events, his Wrexham stay can be taken almost guaranteed. Chances are, we might not even see Rangers thinking of the 31-year-old’s transfer anytime again.
