Journalist Darren Witcoop suggests that Wrexham striker Ryan Hardie can head back to his former club Plymouth Argyle during the January transfer window.
Having potent Championship strikers across the squad is a dream for second tier clubs. Wrexham enjoy those benefits, no doubt, but the Reds are also surrounded with a bigger squad clearance headache. Despite Paul Mullin stepping out on a League One loan, boss Phil Parkinson still has more forwards but only limited playing minutes to offer.
Had it been only Jay Rodriguez as the third choice striker, Wrexham would have no issues in talking him down to a reduced role. Even Elliot Lee won’t mind playing sparsely if he stays somehow. But what about Ryan Hardie?
The Scottish striker has long been pegged down in the striker priority list with minimal chances of impressing Parkinson from now on. An exit seems more like a much needed relief for Hardie than an option. As such, the 28-year-old must swallow his pride in the meantime regarding the choice of his next club.
Journalist suggests Ryan Hardie can rejoin Plymouth Argyle
Any opportunity is better for Hardie rather than helplessly watching his Wrexham attacking peers score goals week in, week out. Not all hope is lost, though. According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Hardie’s time to shine can just be around the corner.
In his own words, Darren Witcoop said: “Ryan Hardie expected to be on the move before deadline. The Wrexham striker is close to full fitness with League One clubs Bolton and old side Plymouth vying for a loan deal. Competition from elsewhere likely to now ramp up for the Scot.”

Fair enough, links about heading back to former club Plymouth during the lowest phase of career will certainly be music to Ryan Hardie’s ears. He wasn’t wrong in leaving the Pilgrims when they sank to the third tier. But perhaps, just perhaps, the Wrexham move was way bigger than Hardie would have hoped.
Coming to a promoted Championship team as the topscorer of a recently relegated one, often works well for proven players. However, exceptions exist when the new team recruits Kieffer Moore, Nathan Broadhead and Josh Windass in the same window later on.
Ryan Hardie must make wise Plymouth Argyle decision
At first glance, the Plymouth Argyle move appears as a no-brainer transfer decision for Hardie. In reality, the decision can make or break Ryan Hardie’s Championship career. Should the versatile attacker opt for a Plymouth homecoming, he will exactly know the season objectives and fan expectations from the beginning.

A couple of early goals will help win his old fans back to Hardie’s side. Sounds good, but the flip side is equally terrible. Some sections of Plymouth fans would have been left unhappy with Hardie leaving them behind post relegation, and poor performances upon returning will give them more reasons to turn their backs on him.
Bolton Wanderers is less risky option for Ryan Hardie
In contrast, picking Plymouth’s League One rivals Bolton Wanderers will offer Ryan Hardie a fresh slate at a new club. He will arrive with negligible expectations but with a chance to win over a new fanbase completely on his merit. If he succeeds, Hardie will have only himself to thank for.
If he doesn’t, most likely Hardie will be hailed as part of a third tier squad that gained Championship promotion. In that case, there will be a good number of League One offers to further improve himself away from Wrexham. In both cases, Hardie has next to nothing to lose.
Let’s see where Ryan Hardie eventually lands in January.
