Manchester United legends David Beckham and Gary Neville are tipped to sign Wrexham hero Paul Mullin for their League Two club Salford City in the January transfer window.
Since Wrexham put the Derby County game to bed, transfer rumours have been popping up continuously for the Red Dragons. Following a quiet start to the January window, Wrexham are linked with a permanent swoop for Brazilian attacker Matheus Pereira out of nowhere.
But the surprising aspect lies only within the rumour, as Pereira toyed with the best Premier League defences five years ago. Then, the Wrexham hierarchy needs to have a calm discussion over academy graduate Harry Ashfield’s future because promising loan offers don’t come knocking every day.
Amidst these crucial transfer matters regarding the club’s present and future, there is another stressful issue to resolve. It’s about finding a new club for Wrexham legend Paul Mullin which doesn’t directly benefit Wrexham from a sporting point of view.
Trimming down a heavy roster is the only merit that comes with offloading Mullin.
Paul Mullin tipped to join League Two side Salford City
According to a report from Racecourse Ramble on X(formerly Twitter), the Reds need not wait forever to part company with Mullin. The report suggests that League Two promotion hopefuls Salford City are licking their lips at Mullin’s availability and may look into a January deal.
Presently, Salford are fending off outside competition for a playoffs spot although they themselves are pushing for bigger and better things. 3 points is all that separates them from a direct promotion berth and hence, it’s a no-brainer they want Paul Mullin to successfully wrap up the task.
Manchester United legends own Salford City
Drawing parallels between Mullin’s Wrexham success and what Salford City need from the 31 year old is quite easy. Just like Wrexham, the Ammies are also an ambitious club sporting a red theme on their home kit.
Plus, the Red Dragons are infamous for their Hollywood owners among English football and so are Salford City with a handful of Manchester United legends owning them collectively. That includes free-kick legend David Beckham and former Manchester United fullback Gary Neville among other co-owners.
As Wrexham were also at the same level a few years ago where Salford City are presently, both Beckham and Neville will be excited to take a leaf out of the Dragons success. And what better than to go out and bring Paul Mullin in, the same man who helped lay the foundation for Wrexham’s modern day success.
What next for Paul Mullin if Salford City transfer happens?
In the best case, Paul Mullin will find himself a new home at Salford City most likely on a permanent basis. The division will be far easier for Mullin than League One, where he was for the first six months of this season.
The best part, Mulls will have an ex-Wrexham mate there, Mark Howard. Better known as the “Chomp”, Howard and Mullin were locker room companions for the past 3 years in North Wales.
With Mullin putting pen to paper on a Salford City deal, the duo could be reunited again.
Generally, players don’t say yes to interested clubs only for the sake of having a familiar face there. It’s an added positive in Mullin’s case, so there is no harm in seriously considering Salford City as the next destination.
Salford City’s immediate next two matches are both against Ollie Palmer’s Swindon Town. Meaning, Mullin can share the pitch with another former teammate shall he make up his mind quickly on heading to Salford City.
Time will tell, whether the Paul Mullin to Salford City transfer happens in January.
