Predicted Wrexham lineup vs Leicester City: Parkinson to start ex-Leicester man?

Predicted Wrexham lineup

Predicted Wrexham lineup vs Leicester City. Will Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson start an ex-Leicester man tonight?

The last time Wrexham played Leicester City in the Championship, they had basically zero expectations on them. The Reds were shaken by a bunch of early league defeats, and survival was the major aim on Wrexham’s minds instead of challenging the Foxes for the 3 points.

Now at home and in a better mid-season position than Leicester City, Wrexham are expected to strengthen their promotion credentials by beating the Foxes. Leicester City legend Marc Albrighton has already talked about the visitors biggest clean sheet struggle this season, which should be an invitation for the Reds to pounce upon the occasion.

Three nights ago, Phil Parkinson’s men got a brutal reality check against Norwich City. The biggest lesson was they couldn’t take any underperforming opponent for granted, neither Norwich nor Leicester. Hence, boss Parkinson must hold back any player rotation ideas in his mind just for the sake of the next QPR visit.

Winning against Leicester City today is a must to revive the promotion momentum, managing player workloads can wait for now. That said, below is the strongest predicted Wrexham lineup Phil Parkinson can pick vs Leicester City to return back to winning ways.

Predicted Wrexham lineup vs Leicester City

GK: Arthur Okonkwo

Okonkwo made a big save on Jovon Makama to prevent the Norwich City defeat from turning into a humiliation. Leicester City don’t have any in-form attackers as him currently, still Okonkwo can come useful in helping towards a clean sheet.

CB: Callum Doyle

Doyle keeps operating as a left-back from time to time, which helps Wrexham in changing their shape according to the situation. Against a tough opponent in the form of Leicester, Doyle’s versatility will be needed.

CB: Max Cleworth

Parkinson dropped Cleworth before two quick games against Blackburn Rovers and Derby County. Logically, he can still do the same but playing Cleworth today and then bringing Dan Scarr in his place on the weekend will make more sense.

CB: Dominic Hyam

Being honest, Dominic Hyam couldn’t get going vs Norwich City attackers. Still, bad days keep coming for good players too and Hyam should be given a starting chance tonight to regain some reputation for himself and the Wrexham backline.

LWB: Liberato Cacace

George Thomason and Liberato Cacace are almost equals in Phil Parkinson’s eyes. One of them will play tonight and the other will most likely get his starting role at QPR.

Among them, Thomason has clocked a huge amount of Championship minutes in recent times, hence, picking Cacace to bolster the left wing back position here.

CM: Matty James

Yesterday, Matty James inked a fresh contract extension at Wrexham. Taking into account that he didn’t started the other day, and has featured for Leicester City in the past it makes sense for Phil Parkinson to introduce James as tonight’s midfield wildcard.

CM: George Dobson

Subbing off George Dobson instead of Ben Sheaf was a silly mistake from Parky that resulted in the 2-1 Norwich defeat. To make amends for it, the Englishman must prefer Dobson in the lineup and if possible, keep him on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

RWB: Issa Kabore

Issa Kabore’s recovery has gone quite well than expected. The right wing back kept his flank busy with chances and key passes, hence, there is no point in dropping him again when Kabore is in rhythm.

LW: Nathan Broadhead

Nathan Broadhead is Wrexham’s starting left winger by a huge mile. His chance creation is top-notch, although the Welshman could do with more clinical finishing against the Foxes.

ST: Sam Smith

Sam Smith has displaced Kieffer Moore as the club’s go-to striker across January. His purple patch has resulted in 3 goals across 3 consecutive matches. For that reason, Smith should lead the line yet again.

RW: Ollie Rathbone

Josh Windass to Rangers is off, at least that’s what James McClean and Wrexham fans understand now. Still, the 31-year-old’s impact has slowed down as a right winger.

Ollie Rathbone has fared better on the right, and Parkinson should reward Rathbone for that vs Leicester City.
