Wrexham striker Sam Smith shares the same Josh Windass feelings which the fans hold over Windass’ silent celebration.
Today is the second day of Wrexham’s two week long international break. On Thursday, Reds stars Nathan Broadhead and Danny Ward will be in action for Wales as they begin the final lap of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying journey.
They will play Bosnia and Herzegovina first in Cardiff. Afterwards, depending on the result the Wrexham duo might prepare for the final qualification showdown against either of Italy or Northern Ireland.
Plenty of Wrexham fans will have their eyes on the Wales national team this week. Before that, there are still a couple of days left to properly soak the 2-1 Sheffield United win.
Josh Windass was Wrexham’s underrated hero in 2-1 Sheffield United win
Sam Smith and Issa Kabore were the celebrated stars from the 2-1 comeback. The former had a hand in both goals while Kabore produced the dipping delivery that helped wrap up the all important win in the Blades backyard.
At the same time, nobody should forget Josh Windass. Early in the season, he used to contribute with goals and assists at a similar rate at which Kieffer Moore bagged goals for Wrexham.

Windass’ goals have quite slowed down for months. Nevertheless, whenever he scores it often turns out to be a massive one for Wrexham on the evening. At Sheffield United, Windass only needed one clever run in the box and one clear chance in his path to bring the Reds on level terms at 1-1.
Josh Windass silent celebration
Celebrations comes after goals. For a crucial 1-1 finish like this which can have a major say in qualifying for playoffs, Windass deserves to take off his shirt in joy, run to the corner flag and celebrate with the travelling Wrexham fans. Or do it all together.
Instead, Windass stayed silent as usual. The 32-year-old Wrexham No.10 just walked away to the centre of the pitch like nothing had happened. And the surprising part? It’s not the first time Windass has opted for a silent celebration in a Wrexham shirt.
In fact, there can be a valid case to make as to whether Windass has ever celebrated a goal passionately in his career or not.
Sam Smith shares same Josh Windass feelings as fans
Josh Windass attacking teammate Sam Smith has opened up on this matter. Just like the Wrexham fans, even he had no justification for Windass not doing a celebration rather than admiring him for it.

In his own words, the BBC quoted Sam Smith saying: “Honestly, I have no idea how he does it. I couldn’t even remember what happened when I scored, but it probably shows his composure compared to mine.”
Sam Smith is perfectly spot on here. Every Wrexham fan saw Smith jumping with fists in the air and celebrating his 2-1 winner enthusiastically with fans and his Wrexham teammates. Honestly, that 2-1 moment deserved a grand reaction like what Smith did.
Josh Windass debut Wrexham season is about to conclude in a month. 11 goals and 7 assists have come from his boot for the Reds cause. Hopefully, he guides Phil Parkinson’s men to the playoffs and if possible, score in the playoffs final like his dad Dean Windass to take Wrexham to the Premier League.
It would be the most Josh Windass thing ever if he scored the game winner at Wembley in the promotion playoffs final and just walks away without celebrating.
