Wrexham have 2 more reasons to fear tomorrow’s Ipswich Town game as Kieran McKenna has opened up on a couple of crucial injury updates.
Wrexham have rocked off to a shaky Championship run in February. A Millwall defeat and a heartbreaking 2-2 Bristol City draw have knocked the Reds out of the top 6 playoffs zone for the time being. Still, the most awful part about these two winless results is that Wrexham won both of these Millwall and Bristol City games in the first half of the league season.
Phil Parkinson’s men are a whole better team now than their August and September selves, and that is a cause of worry for tomorrow’s Ipswich Town game as well. So far, Wrexham have restricted Kieran McKenna’s side to a 0-0 draw in November and defeated them 1-0 at home the previous Friday.
Going by this strange pattern of failing to beat teams whom Wrexham outclassed already, fans will definitely feel uneasy before tomorrow’s afternoon kick-off. On top of that, 2 more reasons have arrived for Wrexham to fear the Ipswich Town game.
Wrexham have 2 more reasons to fear Ipswich Town game
To be clear, Wrexham’s 1-0 FA Cup win over Ipswich Town was a commendable team effort. No doubt in that. However, deep down every Wrexham fan will admit that Ipswich Town swapped almost half of their strongest starting lineup with players who often warm the Blues bench in the Championship.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna was quick to point out that aspect while hinting that his team won’t give another easy day to the Reds. A few days on from then, McKenna has sent the message clear regarding 2 massive Ipswich Town injury boosts.
In his own words, East Anglian Daily Times quoted Kieran McKenna saying: “Marcelino, yes. He has recovered well and trained well all week.”
Moments later, McKenna also touched upon Ipswich Town forward Wes Burns. He added: “With Wes we’re still waiting to decide for sure.”
Last weekend, neither Marcelino Nunez nor Wes Burns made the Ipswich Town team sheet to take on Wrexham. However, things will be more tougher for Phil Parkinson’s men in a day’s time.
Ipswich Town duo can turn difference maker against Wrexham
During the 2025 summer transfer window, Ipswich Town splashed £10m to sign Marcelinho Nunez from local rivals Norwich City. As things stand until February, that massive gamble has paid off incredibly well. Igonoring his recent injury, Nunez has bagged 4 goals and 9 assists for Ipswich Town across all competitions.

Not only have they got the Nunez move right, but Ipswich Town have hit the jackpot by adding the 25-year-old to their midfield. Against Wrexham, Nunez only made a fifteen minute cameo in 2025, but since then, has come up decisive with goals and assists against top-tier Championship sides Coventry City, Hull City and Stoke City.
With those numbers, Nunez is easily a big game player Wrexham won’t wish to face in top form. Wes Burns can’t be taken lightly either. Somewhat similar to Max Cleworth, Burns has seen the rise from League One to Premier League football with Ipswich Town.
The Welshman is a right midfielder by trade but is a handy goalscoring option for Kieran McKenna. Despite spending almost the entire 2025 out with a hamstring injury, Burns came and netted the 2-0 strike to seal all 3 points against league leaders Coventry City.
Nowadays, he fills in for Jaden Philogene on the wings and that will very much be his position against Wrexham. On the right, Burns will battle Issa Kabore who isn’t much adept in both physicality and defending. Ryan Longman can do a better job keeping Burns in check and let’s hope Phil Parkinson turns to him for the Wrexham starting eleven.
Taking a third clean sheet against Ipswich Town this season will be an uphill climb. Let’s see if Wrexham can pull this off.
