Wrexham are the biggest winners from Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League draw

Wrexham are the biggest winners from Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw against defending European Champions PSG.

Wrexham have nothing to do with the UEFA Champions League as of now. Indirectly, the Reds have been handed a boost from the recent Champions League Round of 16 draws. Yesterday, the names of all 16 participants left in the elite European competition got confirmed.

Six Premier League teams started the 2025/26 Champions League campaign and coincidentally, all 6 of them made it to the last 16. That says a lot about Premier League’s superior competitiveness over other top-notch teams all across Europe.

Wrexham’s FA Cup opponents Chelsea were also among those 6 English top-flight sides waiting eagerly for their Champions League fate.

Chelsea draw PSG in the Champions League

The verdict on Chelsea’s Champions League Round of 16 tie has arrived. The Blues have drawn reigning French and European Champions PSG in the final 16 stage of the tournament. Honestly, every draw in the two-legged Champions League knockouts is a complicated task in itself.

Likewise, it will be a stressful affair for both Chelsea and PSG when they lock horns in the Round of 16. There will be many Premier League fans ruling Chelsea here itself, but on their part, they have thrashed this same PSG side 3-0 before to lift the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Wrexham are the biggest winners from Chelsea vs PSG draw

Coming to Wrexham, how can this Chelsea vs PSG draw impact the Reds? After all, Wrexham fans have long marked the 7th March FA Cup Chelsea date in their calendars. They will be keen to keep up with everything going on at the Stamford Bridge outfit.

As a simple answer, Chelsea’s PSG draw has gone very well to Wrexham’s liking. The other alternate draw for Liam Rosenior’s Blues could have been Newcastle United who are navigating through a tough Premier League season this time around.

That would become a lightweight task for Chelsea who will simultaneously focus more on the Wrexham evening. Now that it’s Chelsea vs PSG in the Champions League, their fixture list has congested more by the day.

Infact, Chelsea are scheduled to visit Wrexham for the FA Cup on the 7th March and then jet off to a long trip to Paris for a PSG showdown just three days later. That’s 2 crunch knockout games in 3 days, and most importantly two away trips for Chelsea.

Wrexham are slated to taste the feeling of playing 4 times within 11 days come March. Somewhere, the same equation has developed for Chelsea. The Blues have a massive squad depth to their benefit, but like every top-flight side they also select their starting lineup from a fixed bunch of 17-18 first team players.

Chelsea are also risking key injuries with back-to-back away travels to Wrexham and PSG this way. Out of them, the Blues will prefer to name a full strength lineup against PSG and might shuffle the entire playing eleven at the Racecourse.

That can open the doors for Wrexham to go neck-to-neck with a second string Chelsea lineup. When Nottingham Forest tried resting half of their usual starters, Phil Parkinson’s men pounced upon the opportunity and dumped them out of the FA Cup. There’s every bit of chance the same can happen in the Wrexham vs Chelsea FA Cup tie next week.
