Wrexham fans are losing their minds over £19m striker Sidiki Cherif’s transfer rumour.
Wrexham squaring off with Premier League side Crystal Palace for £19m striker prodigy Sidiki Cherif is the talk of the town in the Championship. Understandably, so because the current second-tier transfer record lies on the Reds mercy.
Whenever the topic comes about record transfer bids, every English clubs fanbase has something to say on the deal. Wrexham fans are also quite vocal on the Cherif links emerging right now. Some of them are pinching themselves if this £19m talent was the steal deal the club had longed for so long.
Others are fair to have their reservations against bringing in more strikers. They believe Kieffer Moore and Sam Smith should help Parkinson’s men see out this Championship season without much scoring headaches. But the major portion of Wrexham fans are losing their minds over the proposed £19m Sadiki Cherif rumour.
Wrexham fans are losing their minds over £19m striker rumour
The most popular complaint fans have is about Cherif’s current season stats. One fan laughed while adding: “4 goals in 18 games is now £20m?”
Well, Wrexham’s national league days are gone when players like Paul Mullin could be bought for pennies and they brought more than a 100 goals in return. The point is, Cherif has netted these 4 goals while playing for French top-flight side Angers meaning he has the potential to make it big in first division football.

Still, this £19m fee is too steep for a raw talent, not gonna lie. Another fan pointed that Wrexham’s pressing needs lie at the right-back spot instead. He sarcastically put: “Watch us sign him and Parky plays him wingback.”
Till now, Parkinson has tested Issa Kabore and Ryan Longman at the right wingback position. Among them, Longman is a natural right winger and not someone whose core priority is to defend the opposition attackers. Still, Longman has to provide regular cover at right wing back.
So, if Parky wishes to use Cherif in a makeshift role then Wrexham must think twice before signing the 19 year old. After all, teenagers often succumb to the expectations placed on them and usually fail to display their full potential in men’s football. With that in mind, playing Cherif out of position can be a huge Wrexham transfer disaster in the making.
A good chunk of the Reds faithful see this massive £19m Sadiki Cherif rumour as a moment of pride for the Red Dragons. Relaying these feelings, a third fan wrote: “Wrexham spent 15 years in the NL averaging crowds of about 4k, and only got back in the EFL 2.5 years ago. Now they’re 9th in the Championship, averaging crowds of 10k+ and making offers of £19million.”

Many rival fans were quite concerned with Wrexham’s finances. One of them posed a question: “How on earth are these lot playing within FFP rules???”
Firstly, there is no FFP rule governing the EFL Championship. Rather, the Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules are kept in place just as they are in the Premier League until the end of the current 2025/26 season.
With the PSR, there is an important criteria to not exceed £39m losses over the course of 3 consecutive Championship campaigns. The Reds haven’t been in such extreme losses, owing to the fact that the Hollywood owners have brought in substantial sponsorships such as the likes of HP and TikTok over the years.
Also, the PSR rules are about to be erased from the Premier League from the upcoming 2026/27 season. As such, there might be similar changes in the Championship that will ward off those fears should Wrexham ever get closer to crossing the fine line set by PSR.
