‘Now we see’ – Wrexham fans rally behind new signing Zak Vyner

Wrexham fans rally behind new signing Zak Vyner in the aftermath of the centre-back’s motivating words regarding the Championship campaign ahead.

It’s well documented that Wrexham failed to bag a new right wing back while the January transfer window stayed open. Issa Kabore isn’t an awful option as a guaranteed starter but the purpose of having good backups is to ensure the campaign doesn’t get disrupted if one player suffers from form or fitness.

Take the Reds centre-backs as an example. There were already 4 match-ready names at the heart of the defence with Lewis Brunt as a last-choice candidate to call upon. Now, there are 5 reliable central defenders with Wrexham bringing Zak Vyner onto Phil Parkinson’s ship.

Well, that’s called some shrewd business by picking value for money players on the cheap. Arriving for a nominal £1.5m fee, Vyner just needs to do the basics well like filling in for Dominic Hyam in an easy game and helping the Red Dragons claim a clean sheet.

Zak Vyner sets the record straight on his Wrexham ambition

Being defensively reliable whenever called to action will alone make Vyner’s January switch a success in the fanbase’s eyes. However, the 28-year-old is prepared to go the extra mile for fulfilling Wrexham’s Premier League promotion goal.

In his own words, Vyner set the record straight on his Wrexham ambition, saying: “Another promotion. You know, that’s the goal. My ambition and my drive and my goal is to play in the Premier League and this club is well on the way to do that. And hopefully I can help drive them to that.”

Planning for life at Wrexham while dreaming of a promotion in the first place is a sign of a quality starter, hands down. Former Wrexham stars know it better how the competition for places keeps ramping up after each successful jump in the playing level. Vyner might have to taste this reality the hard way someday, but that day isn’t expected to arrive soon.

Wrexham fans rally behind new signing Zak Vyner

Wrexham fans are rallying behind Zak Vyner with his motivational comments just days after joining the Reds. One fan praised him for his mentality. He said: “Seems to have a very solid head on him, has confidence and would love to be a part of the Wrexham experience. Parky does not sign idiots. This guy will fit into the team without any problems.”

Not going overboard with his first impression but Vyner seems more dedicated to making a real impact than Conor Coady managed to do in his forgettable Wrexham career. If replacement transfers were rated on a scale of 10, swapping Coady for Vyner is a straight 9/10 move.

Another Reds fan talked on similar lines saying: “Ah, now we see why Coady was loaned out!”

Other fans hailed Phil Parkinson for his art of squad building. Last summer, the club were linked with finalising a Zak Vyner transfer that couldn’t happen mostly because Wrexham had multiple areas to upgrade in the squad.

This time, Wrexham got their man while simultaneously having a flurry of above decent centre-backs in their ranks. A third fan couldn’t contain his excitement knowing this. He said: “Welcome Zak! We now have the six-pack of superb center-backs that Parky always wants!”

All in all, Zak Vyner’s addition has got Wrexham fans relaxed about the busy February schedule ahead. The first of those games is a Millwall showdown at home, where Vyner will most likely make a super sub cameo. Let’s see how he does in his first Wrexham outing.
