Wrexham fans won’t believe how little it will cost to sign Yan Valery

Wrexham fans won’t believe how little it will cost to sign Yan Valery from Sheffield Wednesday in the January transfer window.

Saturday night’s 3-2 comeback win has given Wrexham fans enough reasons to re-watch the final 5 minutes of drama at QPR. Reflecting on the game’s dying moments, it feels good to know how many valuable chances Wrexham can create when their backs are against the wall.

Most of the Reds attacking opportunities come with either Nathan Broadhead, George Thomason and Callum Doyle linking down the left hand side. The second way is to aim at the goal hoping that something meaningful comes out of it.

Relying on the right flank for goals is a bit of a drying trend at Wrexham, with neither Issa Kabore and nor Ryan Longman having directly contributed to goals and assists in a long while.

No wonder Phil Parkinson’s men need a new right back in the squad since January started. Sheffield Wednesday’s Yan Valery is the recent right wing back name emerging on Wrexham’s radar. Now, a stunning revelation has been made about how little Wrexham will have to pay for Valery.

Wrexham can sign Yan Valery for £1.15m

Every Championship fan knows that Sheffield Wednesday has both on-field struggles in the second tier as well as the off-field struggles related to EFL points deduction. The Owls are under hot water for their financial irregularities and that’s why frequent takeover updates have become the new norm at Hillsborough.

That process coupled with the EFL’s administration has already resulted in abundant talent drain from the Wednesday squad. There can still be more to it with Owls fans providing a key Yan Valery insight from their administration scenario.

As quoted by the Football League World, Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna said: “I think it’s inevitable that there will be a fire sale in the last few days of the transfer window. Unfortunately, it’s one of the horrible realities of the administration process, and the administrators are bound to accept market value bids for players.”

The “market value” phrase will excite Wrexham fans. According to Transfermarkt, the Reds transfer target Yan Valery is valued at £1.15m. More or less, Wrexham can sign Yan Valery for a little over a million pounds should Sheffield Wednesday stay in administration by the time the January transfer window ends.

Transfer fee comparison: Issa Kabore vs Hampus Skoglund vs Yan Valery

Coming to the big question. Who should Wrexham sign for the right back role out of Issa Kabore, Hampus Skoglund and Yan Valery?

Firstly, all 3 of them have their own merits. Although Issa Kabore’s attacking numbers have stayed stagnant at Wrexham for months, he has shown his tremendous assist making ability when in form. Signing him will only require agreeing a transfer fee with Manchester City.

There is no fear of getting beaten to Issa Kabore’s signing as long as the next summer transfer window. This luxury is absent in the cases of Hampus Skoglund and Yan Valery. Both talented full-backs can be poached by rival suitors, hence, Wrexham can’t waste time on the deal if they are serious about it.

As for Issa Kabore, there was no pre-decided transfer fee at which Wrexham can snap him permanently from Manchester City. Still, going by the 24-year-old’s flashes of brilliance in the Championship, a fee in the region of £5-7m can be expected.

In comparison, Hampus Skoglund’s asking price is slightly lower at £4m. Then, again Wrexham need to ask whether saving a million pounds or two is really worth the risk of preferring a new right-back over a familiar figure in Issa Kabore.

Lastly, Yan Valery’s transfer fee can fall somewhere around the £1.15m mark which makes him the most cost-effective option among all 3. Also, Valery is the oldest right-back option and has the most Premier League experience, which is where Wrexham wish to find themselves under boss Phil Parkinson.
