Wrexham loanee Harry Ashfield is set for Wales U21 duty during the March international break following a successful League Two loan at Cheltenham Town.
Wrexham agreed transfer deals for 3 promising talents with League Two outfit Cheltenham Town during the January transfer window. The Reds permanently let go of Jake Bickerstaff before sending attacking pair Mo Faal and Harry Ashfield to see out the current season on loan there.
Among those two loanees, Mo Faal has had a torrid time at Cheltenham Town with injuries denying him any competitive minute on loan so far. With just over one month left to go in the 2025/26 season, it looks increasingly difficult Faal will ever get to show his skills at Cheltenham.
The 24-year-old striker arrived at the Racecourse in a £500k deal from West Brom two years ago but things haven’t gone smooth for Faal at Wrexham. His loan partner at Cheltenham Town, Harry Ashfield has been terrific though.
Back in August, Ashfield made headlines as the then 19-year-old scored a decisive debut goal vs Preston North End in the 3-2 Carabao Cup win for Phil Parkinson’s men. That game was enough to tell the potential Ashfield had which is now on full display in League Two.
Harry Ashfield successful League Two loan
Harry Ashfield has made 9 appearances in total for Cheltenham Town so far. Although the Wrexham loanee hasn’t nailed down a starting spot yet, there have been visible improvements in his game.

In his third game for Cheltenham, Harry Ashfield came as a second half substitute with his team trailing 2-1 to Salford City. Only ten minutes were left on the clock and another Cheltenham Town defeat was looming on the cards. Despite that, the playmaker made an instant impact by curling a left-footed shot in the bottom corner to bring Cheltenham level at 2-2.
Later, his team won the game 3-2 in stunning fashion during injury time. Cheltenham Town got the three vital points against Salford City that day, but a large portion of it was down to Ashfield’s 2-2 equaliser to kickstart the comeback.
Harry Ashfield earns Wales U21 call-up

In their own words, Wrexham announced Harry Ashfield’s recent Wales U21 call-up on X(formerly Twitter): “We are delighted to confirm Harry Ashfield has received his first @Cymru Under-21 call-up for the upcoming matches against Belarus and Denmark.”
What next for Harry Ashfield and Wales U21 team?
Currently, the Wales U21 side is busy with their Euro U21 schedule. The young Dragons have played four group games against Group I peers Austria, Belgium, Denmark and Belarus but have only one win to their name.
That victory came in a 2-0 contest against Austria U21 side but that’s just it. The Wales U21 squad has suffered crushing 6-2 and 7-0 defeats against Denmark U21 and Belgium U21 respectively, which leaves them virtually guaranteed to stay bottom of Group F until things change massively for them.
With Harry Ashfield’s arrival, Wales U21 would surely stand a decent chance to get the better of Belarus whom they only lost 2-0 previously. The Denmark game afterwards will be tough. Still, let’s hope for the best regarding Harry Ashfield and Wales U21’s international break.
