Wrexham player ratings from 1-0 Charlton win away in the Championship. Ollie Rathbone and 8/10 Wrexham duo were superb on the night.
The Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic game was quite weird to be honest. There were plenty of shaky moments on both ends of the pitch but not much shots on target to show for it. Phil Parkinson’s men buried one of their 3 on-target shots in while Charlton Athletic couldn’t capitalise on the only time they tested Arthur Okonkwo in goal.
From Wrexham’s point of view, it wasn’t a standout performance they would have set out for knowing their opponents Charlton were 13 places below them. Still, a win is a win and it’s time for the Reds to takeaway as much positives as they can from the Charlton win.
With that said, let’s head over to the Wrexham player ratings of every starter on a scale of 10 who contributed in the 1-0 Charlton Athletic win.
Wrexham player ratings from 1-0 Charlton Athletic win
GK: Arthur Okonkwo – 7
Mishit a goal kick early on that led to a dangerous Charlton Athletic chance inside the box. Was left helpless when Tyreece Campbell got a free header but couldn’t keep it down. To his merit, Okonkwo did pull a great instinctive save to deny Sonny Carey a late 1-1 equaliser.

CB: Callum Doyle – 8
Whipped multiple crosses to Kieffer Moore in the first half but none of them left the Welshman with a good scoring chance. One of them rebounded to Ollie Rathbone on the 1-0 goal. In defence, Doyle made a last-ditch intervention on an Okonkwo mistake and was always on his toes to clear incoming attacks.
CB: Dom Hyam – 6
Hyam did a good job closing down Dykes and Carey in attack but he wasn’t as rock-solid at the back as his usual self. Flew into blocking the last-minute Charlton chance and missed, but Okonkwo was at hand to tip it away.
CB: Max Cleworth – 7
Cleworth was sensible in picking the best passes in front of the Charlton Athletic press. Many times, he played it extra safe to Okonkwo and supported Hyam throughout the evening.
LWB: George Thomason – 6
The Thomason vs Campbell battle was a hard watch for Wrexham. Most often, Thomason was easily beaten by Campbell’s pace. Still, the wingback managed to dial a decent cross and crowded the box well while defending.
CM: George Dobson – 6
Dobson was quite sluggish while tracking back Charlton forwards. His laziness encouraged the Addicks to flood the Wrexham box. A little bit of bad luck could have restricted the Red Dragons to only one point from the Valley.
CM: Lewis O’Brien – 6
Lewis O’Brien was back to his awful finishing when he couldn’t guide Kieffer Moore’s pass into an open net. Did a lot of pressing and made key interceptions but the win would have been sealed much earlier if not for his missed sitter.

RWB: Issa Kabore – 8
Issa Kabore wasn’t in a rush to cross at the first opportunity and instead, looked out for smart passing lanes. Played a quick 1-2 with Ollie Rathbone and unleashed a trivela shot which was cleared later.
The 24-year-old’s highlight moment came when he anticipated Luke Berry’s turn and blocked his shot. Perhaps that moment was the reason why Nathan Jones was quite frustrated after the final whistle.
CAM: Nathan Broadhead – 5
It was a poor playmaking display from Broadhead. Couldn’t get the room to try out a few shots from distance and neither laid any decent deliveries into the box.
CAM: Ollie Rathbone – 9
Ollie Rathbone never shied from putting in defensive work and ran at the Charlton Athletic midfield to slow down attacks. Controlled the ball well and took it on his weaker foot to net the match-winning strike past Charlton keeper Mannion. Was very close to registering an assist when Kabore attempted a shot inside the Addicks penalty area.
ST: Kieffer Moore – 7
Kieffer Moore never got enough breathing space in the box to cause problems to the Charlton Athletic backline. Played as a targetman presence and released a good ball towards O’Brien that should have been turned in for the second goal.
