Wrexham player ratings following the 2-1 Norwich City defeat at Racecourse in the 27th Championship matchday.

Wrexham’s 2-1 defeat against Norwich City has sunk fan morale over the weekend. Watching other Championship results go in the Reds favour like Stoke City dropping points and Watford losing, this was a lost opportunity to spring upwards into the top-6 or atleast onto the seventh spot.

However, the visitors had other plans and a better execution than Wrexham for the majority of the night. Couple that with Phil Parkinson making 2 lineup mistakes, the Reds couldn’t capitalise on the momentum they built from the 1-1 equaliser. As a result, Wrexham came home empty-handed and the wait for a top-6 position continues for another few weeks.

Most Wrexham players were downright sloppy in dealing with Norwich City’s chances. Some did step up to fight for a draw until late in the evening. That said, below are the Wrexham player ratings of every starting eleven player on a scale of 10.

Wrexham player ratings following the 2-1 Norwich City defeat

GK: Arthur Okonkwo – 8

Arthur Okonkwo was kept quite busy across both halves. Went the right way when Norwich City struck the woodwork, and showed good presence of mind to spread his body and deny Jovon Makama from making it 2-1 minutes before the Canaries striker actually did.

CB: Callum Doyle – 7

Doyle found out Nathan Broadhead with a precise through ball in the first half only for Josh Windass to waste the chance. Later, the 23 year old gave his all to block Makama’s powerful shot but his effort went in vain.

CB: Dominic Hyam – 7

Hyam had struggles dealing with Makama’s quick feet, but diverted away a 1v1 chance by putting pressure on the striker to rush into an early shot that went up and over.

CB: Max Cleworth – 6

First game after his Wrexham contract extension, and Cleworth didn’t disappoint. Raced forward to help Issa Kabore roam freely near the final third, and launched a brilliant assist for Sam Smith to head home the 1-1 equaliser.

LWB: George Thomason – 7

Slightly shocking to see Parkinson pick Thomason over Cacace despite the latter’s amazing FA Cup performance. Still, Thomason proved the Reds boss right by bursting into the box unmarked on a couple of occasions late into the game.

Once, he went for a bottom-corner strike that was fairly off target. Moments later, Thomason nearly grabbed an assist after setting Nathan Broadhead with an easy tap-in that the winger failed to convert.

CM: George Dobson – 6

George Dobson again went for a curling set-piece similar to his free-kick against in the FA Cup. Here, his accurate cross came to nothing. Still, a decent defensive game from Dobson nonetheless.

CM: Ben Sheaf – 5

Both of Norwich City’s goals came from Ben Sheaf losing possession carelessly. Every time, Sheaf attempted to intercept passes or make blocks he would end up on the ground with Wrexham fans praying that the scoreboard doesn’t turn more worse.

RWB: Issa Kabore – 7

Issa Kabore didn’t opt to lay more crosses this time unlike his 2 assists in the reverse game against Norwich City. Even then, his flair and dribbling was a treat to watch for Wrexham fans who feared Kabore might need a while to hit top form again.

LW: Nathan Broadhead – 7

Nathan Broadhead was the most unlucky forward on the pitch. Drilled a swift cross for Josh Windass to put it wide from close range.

Then, couldn’t get on the end of a Thomason strike in the second half. A few minutes later, almost netted the 2-2 equaliser but the Norwich City keeper made an incredible save leaving him helpless.

ST: Sam Smith – 7

Unleashed a powerful header to convert Cleworth’s cross and level things up at 1-1. Got another header chance but he couldn’t put the shot down. Else, Wrexham could have bagged a 2-1 lead at half-time.

RW: Josh Windass – 6

Josh Windass missed an easy sitter from a quick Broadhead delivery. Also, attempted a fair few crosses to meet Smith but otherwise had a dull Championship night yet again.
