‘Tracking’ – Wrexham rival Rangers for 12 goal striker ahead of 2026 summer

Wrexham are planning to rival Rangers for Zurich’s 12 goal striker Philippe Keny ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.

Kieffer Moore last played for Wrexham in the 4-2 FA Cup defeat to Chelsea three weeks ago. There, the Welshman clinged on for the entire 120 minutes of action including regulation time and both halves of the added extra time.

However, disaster struck soon for Wrexham and Phil Parkinson’s men have now gone four games without Moore in March alone. That misery is about to end in April but it shows how dearly Wrexham need to find a long-term No.9 solution.

Full credit to Sam Smith for carrying the Reds attack all this while but more helping hands are needed up top. Davis Keillor-Dunn and Bailey Cadamarteri were brought for the same purpose, more or less, yet boss Phil Parkinson doesn’t seem fully convinced with either of them.

Phil Parkinson hesitant to start Keillor-Dunn and Cadamarteri

Both Keillor-Dunn and Cadamarteri frequently keep coming on as second-half substitutes but so does Jay Rodriguez. More precisely, it’s often Rodriguez replacing Sam Smith on Championship matchdays.

Parkinson appears hesitant to ask Keillor-Dunn to start at Championship level who was playing in League One until January. With Cadamarteri, it’s either his inexperience, very few goals in the second-tier or both.

Keeping these situations in mind, Wrexham must look out for a first-choice striker who is proven in top-flight football and can score goals for fun. That way, the new striker can compete with Sam Smith and Kieffer Moore in the Premier League while Keillor-Dunn and Cadamarteri gain more exposure to playing in various attacking roles.

Wrexham rival Rangers for 12 goal striker Philippe Keny

During the March international break, Wrexham are keeping a close eye on one forward with a view to a 2026 summer signing. The player in question is Philippe Keny, who plies his trade for Swiss relegation-battling outfit Zurich at present.

In his own words, journalist Pete O’Rourke gave an insight into Wrexham’s Keny interest, adding: “Coventry City, Wrexham and Rangers are tracking highly-rated FC Zurich striker Philippe Keny. The powerful forward has impressed for FC Zurich this season with 12 goals bringing him onto the radar of a number of clubs across Europe.”

Well, one thing is certain by now. Wrexham don’t waste any time in planning for future signings even when there is no transfer window active for another two months.

As for Philippe Keny, he seems a top centre-forward prospect and there’s no denying that. 12 goals might seem less for a striker in the context of a full season but Wrexham fans need to see the bigger picture here. Keny doesn’t play for a top Swiss club like Basel or Young Boys where he would get better chances at scoring goals and aiming for titles.

Instead, the 26-year-old is guiding Zurich out of a relegation headache. That says a lot of Keny as a team player who can also adapt to various attacking roles such as a striker, false nine or even an attacking midfielder.

Moreover, Rangers are also monitoring Keny. So, Wrexham can take their rival interest as an assurance of Keny’s scoring potential and leave the final say up to boss Phil Parkinson whether he has space for the 26-year-old’s playing profile in his plans.
