Wrexham are going all-in to complete a final-minute move for Portsmouth full-back Terry Devlin for a £2m quoted fee.
The transfer window deadline is just a couple of hours away, as extensive work continues for Wrexham. While close to finalising Cadamarteri’s signing apart from Vyner’s confirmed deal, the Reds are searching for a last-minute move to end up with a hat-trick of signings.
Tracking back to Wrexham’s to-do transfer list, the club has checked a striking recruit apart from providing defensive depth. The only missing piece of the puzzle is a full-back deal to enable cover on the wings.
For the same reason, Wrexham’s rumour mill had two choices pop up recently. Though both are quality options in Kosta Nedeljkovic and Terry Devlin, the Reds have finalised their right full-back candidate by favouring the first-hand assessed choice.
He’s Pompey’s versatile star, Terry Devlin. As per Football League World, Wrexham are trying everything possible to get a deal for him over the line before the clock hits deadline.
FLW updated on Wrexham’s progress, quoting: “Wrexham are pushing to seal a deal for Portsmouth defender Terry Devlin in a £2m move”
Devlin wins Wrexham choice over Nedeljkovic
While the transfer update says it simply, emerging as the preferred choice didn’t come easy for Devlin against Nedeljkovic. Especially, for the latter’s Top Flight & UCL pedigree with Aston Villa.
Notably, Kosta Nedeljkovic was Unai Emery’s inaugural January signing in 2024. Not only this, the prodigy’s debut came in a special evening that saw him becoming the 1000th player ever to represent the Villans.
While Nedeljkovic’s playing time at Villa has brief, he still is a part of Emery’s plans. The club’s interest in arranging a fresh loan spell for the emerging right-back speaks for his importance to Villa long-term.

Still, Wrexham’s no to Nedeljkovic & Unai Emery is a rational decision on multiple grounds considered. Given Terry Devlin’s Championship prowess, he outplays the Villa right-back in faster adaptability & better form.
That’s not forgetting how Portsmouth’s £2m ask for a top talent like Devlin is almost a steal deal. With 4 G/A so far in this Championship season, a full-back of Devlin’s quality comes much more expensive.
Wrexham have been lucky to leverage Pompey’s struggles as the latter needs to offload Devlin before seeing his market value plummet after a likely relegation. Factoring it all in, the Reds should run away with the Terry Devlin deal until the deadline catches up.
Devlin’s move can ultimately decide Kabore’s future
As of now, Wrexham’s interest in Devlin stems from their desire to add competition to Issa Kabore for the RWB role. However, the Pompey star could end up putting the latter’s Racecourse future in doubt.
That’s because Devlin is no inferior to Kabore on the offensive front. His 3 goals and 1 assist, despite recently emerging in the starter role, speak of his attacking presence.
Additionally, Devlin’s versatility is something Kabore’s unlikely to match anytime soon. His game awareness in midfield as well as on the right-back role could see him emerge as the first choice in Parky’s pecking order.
Even otherwise, the biggest factor in the advantage of Devlin is his contractual status. Making a permanent switch for a £2m fee, the 22-year-old is bound to enjoy the certainty of his Wrexham future over Man City loanee Issa Kabore.
So far, Kabore’s loan has been a dream spell for Wrexham and its fans. However, his development can see Man City demanding an astronomically hefty price should Wrexham hope to sign him permanently.
Overall, a lot can change if Terry Devlin completes a Wrexham move before the deadline. The Reds are in a race against the clock, and it remains to be seen how the final hours play in the Devlin transfer saga.
