Wrexham can sign Harry Wilson at current wages (if 3 exits happen)

Wrexham can sign Harry Wilson at his current Fulham wages provided the Reds can handle 3 player exits during the 2026 summer transfer window.

The Harry Wilson to Wrexham transfer rumour has quickly picked momentum since Saturday. Be it his current Premier League form for Fulham, becoming the main man at Wales or his expiring contract in 2026, fans are over the moon with the idea of bringing Wilson to the Racecourse.

Agreed, it will be a challenge to reach the Premier League in May but the 5-3 Ipswich Town win has boosted a lot of confidence. The Reds can take down any Championship side at the moment, unless they keep making silly errors and write their own downfall.

So, what’s stopping the Harry Wilson to Wrexham free transfer? The Premier League requirement isn’t tough, luring Wrexham-born Harry Wilson to Phil Parkinson’s squad isn’t tough. Turns out, the 28-year-old’s top-flight wages at Fulham could be a deal breaker.

Harry Wilson’s 2025/26 Fulham wages

It’s common knowledge that Harry Wilson currently ranks among Fulham’s top 3 players in terms of Premier League impact. The late-winners at Chelsea and Brighton in January, as well as yesterday’s assist against Sunderland is enough to stress Wilson’s importance to Marco Silva’s ninth-placed Fulham team.

However, the Wales international’s 2025/26 wages tell a different story. Going by Capology’s numbers, the in-form man Wilson sits outside of the top 11 highest earners at Fulham. The hefty £130k and £120k weekly wages are understandable for star players Bernd Leno and Raul Jimenez respectively.

But a relatively meagre £55k a week is quite unfair to Wilson. That is less than half the wages his fellow winger Samuel Chukwueze gets paid, despite the fact that Wilson has scored thrice the amount of goals as him across all competitions in the 2025/26 season. Even former Arsenal talent Alex Iwobi earns considerably higher than Wilson at £80k per week.

Thus, Wrexham fans won’t be surprised why Harry Wilson is leaning towards a Fulham exit. Still, the question remains. Can Wrexham afford Harry Wilson’s current wages? Or bump up his salary from the next season if they get promoted to the Premier League?

It’s needless to say but the Premier League TV revenue is enough to wrap up multiple big-money deals. A few days ago, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson also hinted how he plans to imitate Sunderland’s transfer strategy once the Red Dragons go up.

Even at Wrexham’s current wages, signing Harry Wilson wouldn’t be a pipe dream. 3 player exits will do the task perfectly, and the best part is that none of them are contributing anything to Wrexham’s promotion dream as things stand.

Jay Rodriguez

Coming to strikers, Wrexham are privileged to have Kieffer Moore, Sam Smith, Davis Keillor-Dunn and Bailey Cadamarteri in the current squad. And Jay Rodriguez too, whom many Wrexham fans might have forgotten that he is still a part of the first-team group.

Right now, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Keillor-Dunn and Cadamarteri get minutes up top. That in itself tells Rodriguez is excess to requirements and the same goes for his massive Wrexham contract. According to a Capology report, Rodriguez earns a whopping £25k weekly wage for showing up to trainings and sometimes making the bench as an unused substitute.

In hindsight, it’s safe to argue that Wrexham were silly to offer Rodriguez a £25k a week deal just an year ago. The only positive is that the 37-year-old striker’s contract runs out in the summer of 2026. The Reds will be more than happy to wish Rodriguez a goodbye in 4 months and boost up their finances to work towards the Harry Wilson free transfer.

Conor Coady

Conor Coady is enjoying life as a starter at Charlton Athletic, far away from Wrexham on loan. His five game disastrous spell has been terrible in every sense, from the £2m transfer fee invested in him to the poor performances he showed in the early weeks of the Championship.

Even now, Coady sits on his £25k a week contract which Wrexham handed to him in July. Getting rid of that financial burden along with Jay Rodriguez’s likely exit will free up £50k from the Reds weekly wages.

But the big question is, can the club find a permanent suitor for Coady in the next six months? That remains to be seen.

Ryan Hardie

Loaned out striker Ryan Hardie is a like-to-like example as Conor Coady. He was recruited to aid the Reds goalscoring in league matches or atleast come useful as a backup forward.

Ryan Hardie did neither of them. Currently, he is trying to make his Huddersfield Town loan spell work out where he also bagged his first goal in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Barnsley. Coming to his Wrexham salary, Hardie pockets £5k every week which brings the combined total from Rodriguez and Coady’s wages to exactly £55k a week.

That’s it. Wrexham can afford Harry Wilson’s current £55k weekly wages and even bump that figure up without the need of parting ways with any first-team starters.
