‘I never saw’ – Wrexham target Harry Wilson plays down Gareth Bale comparisons

2026 Wrexham transfer target Harry Wilson has played down Gareth Bale comparisons ahead of Wales crunch World Cup qualifier vs Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The wait for Wales 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers ends today. The Dragons will go up against Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight in Cardiff with the aim to progress through to the qualifying final.

From Wrexham, Nathan Broadhead and Danny Ward have linked up with the national team over the past weekend. Kieffer Moore could have been another Wrexham representative in the Welsh camp if not for his recurring injuries across 2026.

Regardless, now is not the time for Wales and the fans to mourn player absences. The Dragons need to make use of whatever talent they have for the Bosnia clash, play to their strengths and somehow come out on top after the 90 minutes with a win.

Wrexham target Harry Wilson will be one to look out for

Playing without Kieffer Moore up top is a tough task for both Wrexham and Wales. The Reds still managed to find a way by deploying Sam Smith as the No.9 and depending on him for crucial goals.

Wales don’t have Sam Smith, but it’s obvious Craig Bellamy’s side will also have to go creative and look out for various sources of goals to fill Moore’s void. Nathan Broadhead will be expected to step up with goals like he has done in recent weeks for Wrexham.

Big performances will also be needed from Crystal Palace’s winter signing Brennan Johnson, Stoke City’s Sorba Thomas and Bournemouth winger David Brooks. All of them have starred for Wales in the past couple of years. And tonight is arguably the biggest game in Welsh football in the coming 4 years.

However, the main man to look out for will be none other than 2026 Wrexham transfer target Harry Wilson.

Harry Wilson is Wales biggest hope after Gareth Bale

Throughout the 2010s and early 2020s, Gareth Bale used to be Wales biggest hope on big occasions. Bale led the Dragons to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 and single-handedly pulled Wales through to the 2022 World Cup from the same qualifying stage four years back.

Since his retirement, Moore often assumes the bulk of the scoring load. As he nurses a tendon injury, it’s all down to in-form man Harry Wilson to deliver goals and assists up front.

At 29, Wilson is no longer a promising star for Wales. He has begun hitting his prime at the right time for Fulham, has a knack of taking good free-kicks and never shies away from giving his honest opinions on key referee decisions.

Wales will pray Wilson channels his inner-Gareth Bale for tonight’s Bosnia and Herzegovina showdown. Hopefully, he does but Wilson has played down the growing Gareth Bale comparisons for now.

Harry Wilson plays down Gareth Bale comparisons

Out of sheer humility, Harry Wilson admired Gareth Bale but refrained from the direct comparisons. Making bold claims before a must-win game doesn’t end well in most cases. Hence, it was better on Wilson’s part to direct the focus on the Wales squad instead.

In his own words, the BBC quoted Harry Wilson: “I never saw it as ‘I have to replace Bale’, I just knew along with the other attacking players we’ve got massive boots to fill, a big void to fill. As a collective we have to do that.”

Will Harry Wilson, Nathan Broadhead and co be able to pull Wales to a 2026 FIFA World Cup spot? We will find out soon.
