Wrexham have been suggested to look for the chance to sign on-loan Bournemouth full-back Julián Araujo.
The March international break is nearly over for Wrexham fans. Though a couple of friendlies remain for their club stars, the faithful’s biggest wish is to see the mainstay players return to Championship action without any injury concerns.
In that regard, Burkina Faso’s friendly against Guinea‑Bissau is a must‑watch for the Reds. While the last international break saw Issa Kaboré return from injury, now the club will be hoping to see him come through this one unscathed.
However, Kaboré’s fit return won’t overlook Wrexham’s need for a wing-back reinforcement. Having seen themselves juggle in his absence, the club’s rumour mill has kept turning with a backup or rotation option firmly on the agenda.
Football League World’s latest report provides a timely solution for Wrexham’s recruitment needs. As per FLW, the Reds should make a move for former FC Barcelona right-back Julián Araujo this summer.
Notably, Araujo is currently undergoing a successful loan spell with Celtic in the Scottish Top-Flight. The full-back is currently on Bournemouth’s books, but the Premier League club is willing to let him go this summer.
Julián Araujo could be an upgrade over Terry Devlin rumours
Wrexham’s right back has been a position needing reinforcement for some time. This has seen them being linked to Terry Devlin recently, and the latest Araujo suggestion comes as another option in this aspect.
Previously, Wrexham were reported to be revisiting Devlin’s deal after they missed signing him in January. But if they pursue Julián Araujo, the former Barcelona full‑back could represent an upgrade over Pompey star Devlin.
That’s because Araujo possesses an extensive top-flight pedigree. Despite just being 24 years old, he has gained experience in La Liga with Las Palmas and in the Premier League with Bournemouth.

Factor this in with the fact that Araujo spent some time with Barcelona as well. While he didn’t feature for the senior team, training alongside the best European players helped sharpen his attacking instincts.
It’s worth noting that Araujo is currently enjoying a successful loan at Celtic. Despite joining the club in January, the right-back has quickly become a fan favourite for his defensive commitment and high‑energy attacking play.
Julián Araujo had scored one goal in his 10 appearances for Celtic before he picked up a thigh injury that has seen him recovering on the sidelines lately.
Should Wrexham make a stretch to sign Julián Araujo?
While the above-mentioned qualities make Araujo worth considering for Wrexham, planning a transfer move might look a lot different for him. His experience of the top European leagues comes with significant financial implications.
The right back’s market value would require Wrexham to spend around £7–£9m for him if they decide to pursue him. Not only is this fee significant to Wrexham’s £10m transfer record, but agreeing personal terms would be a challenge in itself.
Araujo’s current loan spell in Celtic has seen him earn passionate fans at the Scottish giants. With the player known to give his all whenever he plays for the club, Celtic are thinking of a permanent move for him.
If that happens, Wrexham’s plans could fail even before they dream about Araujo’s signing.
Finally, there’s the question of dropping down to the Championship. Araujo has spent recent years at top‑flight clubs, so Wrexham would be hesitant to ask him to step down, especially with his reported £60k–£70k weekly wage representing another significant hurdle.
Overall, Julián Araujo could only be a significant possibility if Wrexham reach the Premier League this term. Then again, their prior choice would be to agree on a permanent move for Kabore and sign a suitable backup for him.
Only if the negotiations fail for Kabore, Wrexham can look for the option of bringing Araujo as the first-choice wing-back in a statement signing.
