Wrexham set to welcome Chelsea for FA Cup 5th round clash in March

Chelsea

The FA Cup 5th round draws are over. Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham are set to welcome Premier League giants Chelsea to the Racecourse for the FA Cup tie in March.

Across the three-day FA Cup 4th round affair, Wrexham and Chelsea were the first ones to kickoff their respective ties. The Blues comfortably saw off Hull City with a 4-0 away thrashing. Phil Parkinson’s men had a relatively tough task against Ipswich Town but the Reds did the needful with a 1-0 win to progress ahead.

Little did any Wrexham fan knew that these two early fourth round winners will lock horns in the FA Cup 5th round. Coincidentally, it was a Chelsea fan favourite Joe Cole who pulled this Wrexham vs Chelsea draw.

Previously, the Reds have knocked out Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town in quick succession at the Racecourse. A Chelsea upset to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time will be the cherry on top for Wrexham.

A non-Premier League draw could have made the quarter-finals entry a bit more easier as Josh Windass hoped for. However, fans sensed a Big 6 Premier League draw coming with many of them wishing for an Arsenal face-off.

Lowkey, that possibility felt materializing when Wrexham and Arsenal were among the final 8 teams remaining in last night’s draw. Mikel Arteta’s side drew Mansfield Town soon enough, and Wrexham then got Chelsea on the table. All in all, the Blues meeting is an exciting draw from Wrexham’s point of view.

Wrexham and Chelsea current form

Since 2026 began, Wrexham have lost twice and both of them came at home in the Championship. Chelsea have only tasted one defeat in the New Year on the other hand, which came just before the current Blues boss Liam Rosenior took charge.

He has taken Chelsea to 8 wins out of a possible 11 across all competitions with 2 defeats and a draw. Both of those losses arrived in the Carabao Cup semi-final outings against Arsenal which sent them crashing out of that Cup competition.

In the Premier League, Chelsea’s title aspirations have taken a massive hit this season. With 12 games to go, Liam Rosenior’s side trail league leaders Arsenal by 13 points at the moment which is enough to virtually rule them out from the title race. Nevertheless, Chelsea are quite often the team to beat whenever it comes to knockout competitions.

They are the defending Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup winners, both trophies they won in 2025. Apart from that, the Blues have the distinction of being the only European outfit to have lifted all three UEFA club trophies in their history, the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.

Knowing that, Wrexham have their mammoth task cut out to advance through to the last 8 of the FA Cup come March. Will Phil Parkinson’s men seal a hat-trick of magical FA Cup nights at the Racecourse, let’s see.
