Zak Vyner’s Wrexham debut predicted against his former club Bristol City

Zak Vyner

Zak Vyner’s Wrexham debut predicted to come against his former club Bristol City in away Championship fixture.

Millwall at home is Wrexham’s first matchday after the January transfer window. During those five weeks, the Reds agreed deals in place to sign the trio of Zak Vyner, Bailey Cadamarteri and Davis Keillor-Dunn. All of them are budget picks, and Wrexham fans won’t disagree with this.

Still, there will be plenty of excited faces wanting to see these three newcomers in action as soon as possible. Regarding Keillor-Dunn and Cadamarteri, fans can take a general assumption that the two strikers may get fewer opportunities in their first month at Wrexham.

The attack is doing a stellar job at the moment, hence, boss Phil Parkinson hasn’t got a bucket full of reasons to throw Cadamarteri and Keillor-Dunn up top this early. For Zak Vyner, it’s not this difficult to get playing time because backup centre-back Dan Scarr also gets brought in every few games.

However, Zak Vyner’s Wrexham debut isn’t predicted to arrive just yet. There are roughly 10 days to go into it.

Zak Vyner won’t play against Millwall

The dull Zak Vyner update has arrived for Wrexham. Reds boss Phil Parkinson has touched upon the 28-year-old’s ongoing toe injury at length and didn’t shy away from ruling the experienced Championship defender out of the Millwall clash.

In his own words, the BBC quoted Phil Parkinson saying: “Zak’s got a slight problem with his toe which we knew about. He was back on the grass today but won’t be available this weekend, and possibly next weekend against Ipswich in the FA Cup.”

So, Wrexham will have to rely upon the trusted legs of Dominic Hyam, Max Cleworth and Callum Doyle again. In no way, that’s a problem for the home side who have beaten the Lions with a much quicker backline than they currently have.

During Wrexham’s 2-0 win over Millwall at the Den, the visitors neither had Arthur Okonkwo in goal nor had signed Hyam from Blackburn Rovers until then. It’s just that Zak Vyner’s Wrexham debut date has been postponed, which will upset fans.

Zak Vyner’s Wrexham debut against former club Bristol City

All signs point to a Wrexham debut in familiar surroundings for Zak Vyner. Reading between the lines, it’s crystal clear that Parkinson doesn’t wish to rush Vyner into the fold. Hence, he mentioned the FA Cup tie vs Ipswich Town as another game Vyner will most likely sit out.

Guess what? The immediately next game is against Zak Vyner’s former club Bristol City. The Kenyan international often gets thrown into Bristol City’s best defender debates in recent memory. Plus, Vyner has the distinction of being the Robins most appearance maker at Championship level with 235 games.

His old Bristol City fans will be feeling his absence at Ashton Gate right now. Coincidentally, Zak Vyner’s Wrexham debut will most likely fall there itself. The same fans who kept backing him at Bristol all these years will hope to get a win over the 28-year-old defender in two weeks time.

When Vyner’s transfer to Wrexham was in the works, he might have wondered about facing his former club Bristol City in a matter of weeks after leaving. Now, an extra Wrexham debut twist has also been added to that Bristol City meeting.

Ultimately, winning is what matters in the Championship and let’s hope Wrexham down Bristol City away from home in mid February.
