Shocking Championship stat shows Wrexham play better without Kieffer Moore

A shocking Championship stat has emerged that shows Wrexham play better without Kieffer Moore in the front three.

The mood among the majority of Wales and Wrexham fans is still upset over the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Wales had the game almost won against Bosnia and Herzegovina at 1-0 until an Edin Dzeko header ruined the night.

Yes, Wales were horrible in penalties. But fans and former Welsh players are starting to realise that Kieffer Moore’s absence was a huge reason why the Dragons couldn’t put the game to bed by scoring a second goal.

This current Wales team is blessed with multiple elite wingers such as Dan James, Sorba Thomas, Harry Wilson and Nathan Broadhead who was left out against Bosnia for no reason. They are all able crossers from the flanks. Add Kieffer Moore up front, there’s no chance Wales are scoring less than 3 against a winnable opposition.

After all, boss Phil Parkinson has seen massive Championship success by relying upon Moore to bundle the crosses into the back of the net. The 33-year-old striker rarely disappoints in a Wrexham shirt when fit. Despite that, a shocking Championship stat has emerged that shows Wrexham play better without Kieffer Moore.

Championship stat shows Wrexham’s best front three

Ever since Ollie Rathbone and Sam Smith’s rise in the starting lineup, Wrexham has had the luxury of trying out multiple front three partnerships. Initially, the Reds played Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass with Nathan Broadhead behind them as an attacking midfielder.

Later, Parkinson turned to the 3-4-2-1 formation. Firstly, he tested the trio of Sam Smith with Ollie Rathbone and Nathan Broadhead as the playmakers. Nowadays, the Reds turn to the attacking trio of Sam Smith with Josh Windass and Nathan Broadhead in the No.10 roles.

As per a Championship Data Dive report, the best performing Wrexham trio consists of Sam Smith as the striker and Josh Windass along with Nathan Broadhead as the creative playmakers.

It’s evident that Kieffer Moore isn’t a part of the strongest Wrexham front three. That could very well be down to the Reds hitting peak form since January when the tall striker was often out with injuries. Now, that Moore is back it will be tough for Parkinson to fixate on one attacking trio to see out the campaign.

Kieffer Moore vs Sam Smith: Who should start Wrexham’s remaining 7 games?

Sam Smith is the fittest of the two, hands down. It was him run down the left channel against Sheffield United that set Josh Windass 1-1 equaliser. The subsequent 2-1 winner was a Sam Smith finish which makes him the top candidate to lead the line at West Brom and top 6 rivals Southampton.

Kieffer Moore can be brought on to instead, start games that happen 3-4 days after the previous one. The Birmingham City trip 5 days after Southampton, and the Oxford United visit 3 days after Stoke City are perfect occasions to rest Smith and deploy Moore in the middle.

Hopefully, Smith and Moore don’t catch up any injuries or knocks during April. That would make life extremely difficult for Wrexham in a bid to reach the Championship top 6.
