Wrexham are chasing Spain U21 striker Mateo Joseph ahead of 2026 summer transfer window. Mateo Joseph hasn’t scored a goal in 5 months.
Wrexham were rumoured to be keen on Rangers transfer target Philippe Keny in midweek. At 26 years old, Keny falls in the perfect category of an experienced striker who still has almost a decade left at the top level.
His 12 goals this season are also quite impressive. However, it’s a must to add more striker targets to the summer transfer shortlist to be able to sign one in the end. Wrexham will also be linked with numerous strikers in the coming months, that’s for sure.
That said, a new addition has been made to this list. Wrexham are keeping tabs on a talented Spain U21 international striker at the moment who has had a rough spell of late with no goals in the past 5 months.
Wrexham chase Spain U21 striker Mateo Joseph
Spain U21 international Mateo Joseph is the player in question. He is 22, 4 years younger than Wrexham’s other summer target Philippe Keny. For the record, Mateo Joseph has played in the Premier League with Leeds United but his 0 top-flight goals hardly give him an edge over Keny.

Coming to Mateo Joseph, MOT Leeds News added on his Wrexham links saying: “Wrexham are one of three Championship clubs to have shown an interest in Joseph, MOT Leeds News understands, with his career at Elland Road already looking to be finished.”
Mateo Joseph is currently plying his trade in La Liga at Mallorca, but he still remains a permanent player on Leeds United’s books. He will return to his parent club Leeds in June who are sure to stay in the Premier League for the following season. As such, it’s a must for Wrexham to go up to the Premier League before even thinking of Mateo Joseph transfer.
Mateo Joseph’s poor form will concern Wrexham
From the outside, Mateo Joseph fits the bill as an emerging Spanish striker Wrexham should be targeting for the future. But the risk with Mateo Joseph is his form. At Mallorca, Mateo Joseph has been backed enough since August but he has only scored two goals all along.

Both strikes came in a 3-1 comeback win over Sevilla in October. That was a commendable display from Joseph, but it’s worrying that the Spaniard has never scored in 5 months since then. If he can’t find the back of the net in April that will be 6 months without scoring, which is shambolic for a striker.
Back in January, Wrexham had the same fears for £19m ex-transfer target Sidiki Cherif. He was a similar kind of promising striker as Mateo Joseph, who was pacey, had good positioning inside the box but just couldn’t score on a regular basis.
Eventually, Wrexham dismissed the idea of signing Cherif and instead picked up Bailey Cadamarteri for a mere £1m. A few days ago Cadamarteri netted a crucial goal for Jamaica that might seal a 2026 FIFA World Cup spot for his nation tomorrow.
If Cadamarteri comes on the score sheet again, he might gain more trust from boss Phil Parkinson ahead of the final month of the Championship. A lot will depend on Cadamarteri as well, because if he proves his usefulness then Wrexham might not need any more rising strikers like Mateo Joseph in the squad.
