West Ham are also interested in swooping away Wrexham transfer target Ethan Galbraith from Swansea.
So far, Wrexham have made little progress in the summer transfer window. While the club remain ambitious to strengthen the side for a stronger promotion push next season, the Reds have had no arrivals compared to fellow Championship clubs.
In quite a few cases, Wrexham have been noted for carefully reassessing their plans once they become interested in a target. With the club still keeping tabs on prospects like Anthony Patterson, they have now been hit with a setback in their pursuit of Ethan Galbraith.
Last week, reports hinted at Wrexham’s interest in revisiting their January transfer target, Ethan Galbraith. But while agreeing a deal with Welsh rivals Swansea was a challenge in itself, the Reds have now seen another suitor enter Galbraith’s transfer picture.
The club in question is West Ham. FLW reported on the Hammers’ interest, quoting: “West Ham United have joined Wrexham in the hunt for Swansea City star Ethan Galbraith, Football League World can exclusively reveal.”
West Ham are also interested in swooping away Ethan Galbraith
Over the years, West Ham have built a reputation for raiding the lower divisions for talented players. Having brought in the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mateus Fernandes, and Crysencio Summerville from the Championship, the Hammers have now again turned their attention to the second‑tier market ahead of their first EFL campaign in decades.
This has seen the club emerge as a potential suitor for Wrexham target Ethan Galbraith. While West Ham already have quality midfielders at their disposal, their interest in the Swansea star stems from the possible departure of Mateus Fernandes.
Notably, Fernandes has been linked with a headline‑worthy summer departure. Should he leave, the club are drawing up plans to bring in Galbraith as a possible replacement.
From West Ham’s perspective, Galbraith possesses the quality to step up as Fernandes’ successor. Their interest in the Northern Ireland international stems from the similar playing styles of the two midfielders.

Like Fernandes, Galbraith is a versatile midfielder who can be deployed as a number six, number eight, or even in an advanced number ten role. A high‑work‑rate player, he stands out at the Championship level for his high tackling volume and eagerness to win the ball back.
Additionally, Galbraith is a former Man United academy star, which explains why West Ham view him as a natural successor to Mateus Fernandes. Should Fernandes leave, the Hammers will give Wrexham a tough fight for Galbraith’s signature.
Can Wrexham outmuscle West Ham for Ethan Galbraith’s deal?
Wrexham’s interest in Galbraith dates back to the January transfer window. While their stance on a possible move had strengthened recently due to Galbraith’s standoff with Swansea, West Ham’s entry into the race has affected their plans.
Despite both West Ham and Wrexham being Championship clubs, the former have had an extensive Premier League history. Given that the Hammers are serial promotion favourites to return to the top flight next season, Galbraith’s decision on a possible exit may favour West Ham.
Even from Swansea’s perspective, selling Galbraith to West Ham feels more natural than to their Welsh rivals, Wrexham. While any exit would weaken them in Galbraith’s absence, the club would be more inclined to aid the Hammers’ quest than to strengthen Wrexham.
However, that does not mean Wrexham have no chance of luring Galbraith. Given that the club has been touted as an attractive destination for several football legends in the past, Galbraith could be keen to be part of the rising Wrexham story.
For now, Wrexham’s pursuit of Ethan Galbraith has certainly been hampered by West Ham’s surging interest. It remains to be seen whether the Reds can prize the midfielder away from their Welsh rivals by beating West Ham to his transfer.
