Plymouth Argyle are interested in welcoming back out-of-favour Wrexham striker Ryan Hardie to help their Championship promotion quest next season.
Wrexham’s summer transfer window so far has seen them linked with several potential reunions. While Phil Parkinson has cooled down the growing Josh Windass to Rangers links, the club’s January signing, Davis Keillor-Dunn, is being rumoured to return to League One.
In this regard, another striker’s potential move to his former club has been added to Wrexham’s transfer mill. The player in question is fringe forward Ryan Hardie, with Plymouth Argyle reportedly interested in signing him.
Recently, All About League One reported on Plymouth’s interest, stating: “Plymouth Argyle are interested in re-signing forward Ryan Hardie on a permanent deal from Wrexham. The 29 year old left the pilgrims for north Wales last summer.”
Plymouth Argyle are interested in re-signing Ryan Hardie
Ryan Hardie’s market value has dropped to a steep low after an unimpressive 2025/26 campaign. While this would typically deter most clubs, Plymouth Argyle are very much interested in welcoming him back this summer.
Ever since parting ways with their long‑trusted forward, it hasn’t been an easy ride for the Pilgrims either. Although they managed to mount a playoff push after an unconvincing start to their League One campaign, they ultimately missed out on a top‑six spot.
An eighth‑place finish last season means Plymouth need a stronger promotion push next time around. With the club eager to return to the Championship as soon as possible, they view Hardie as someone capable of doing the job.

Previously, Ryan Hardie won two promotions with Plymouth Argyle. He scored seven goals when the club gained promotion from League Two in 2019/20, and he was the club’s top scorer in their League One title‑winning season in 2022/23.
In around 250 appearances, Ryan Hardie has scored 74 goals for Plymouth Argyle. Aware of the forward’s calibre, the Pilgrims see him as someone who can hit the ground running in their Championship promotion quest next season.
Hardie’s Wrexham exit could offer a fresh start for both parties
There is no denying that the 2025/26 campaign was quite disappointing for Ryan Hardie. Despite arriving as Wrexham’s first summer signing, injuries and limited game time saw him feature much more on the sidelines than on the pitch.
Although the Reds loaned him out on deadline day to League One to help him rediscover his form, his spell bore little fruit. He did manage his first league goals of the season, but injuries followed him to Huddersfield as well.
When Ryan Hardie eventually stood in contention to present a starting case for boss Liam Manning at Huddersfield, another injury in mid‑March saw him play no further. Overall, the forward ended the 2025/26 campaign with only 12 league appearances combined.
In this scenario, a move back to Plymouth is simply the best route for Hardie to start afresh. Familiar with the club and with Argyle close to his heart, the forward would want to consider a return home this summer.
On the other hand, this resolution might be the best outcome for Wrexham as well. Although it would mean losing Hardie just a year after signing him, the Reds are aware that the forward may not be sorely missed in a roster stacked with attacking options.
Even if Hardie remained at Wrexham, he would be behind Kieffer Moore, Sam Smith, and Bailey Cadamarteri in the forward pecking order. With even a January arrival like Cadamarteri struggling for game time, it may be best for all parties if Hardie leaves to rejoin Plymouth.
