Phil Parkinson has clarified Wrexham’s statement of intent by putting the Josh Windass to Rangers transfer rumour to bed.
Wrexham are known to return for old transfer targets in the following window. The Red Dragons held a keen interest in Zak Vyner and Davis Keillor-Dunn dating back to the 2025 summer transfer window, but could only materialise moves for the pair in the subsequent January transfer window.
Well, Rangers are pulling this trick on Wrexham right now. The Ibrox outfit had a topsy-turvy start to the 2025/26 campaign and as such, were vying for quality players in various positions once the January market opened. For attacking help, Rangers set their sights on Wrexham talisman Josh Windass.

Moreover, Windass career past fuelled more fire to these speculations. The 32-year-old Englishman previously played for Rangers during 2016-18 and had developed a reputation for scoring goals consistently.
Windass had totalled 19 goals and 13 assists in those two seasons for Rangers and now when the Gers needed attacking firepower and a dressing room leader, it made complete sense to prize Windass away from North Wales.
Plus, Rangers boss Danny Rohl had coached Windass for two years at Sheffield Wednesday. Everything pointed to Windass leaving Wrexham for Rangers, just six months upon his arrival.

That move didn’t happen back then, but Rangers have returned for Windass again. Given the nature of the summer transfer windows, it’s often the time where key players seriously consider offers to join another club and Rangers isn’t just any other team for Windass.
He might hand in a transfer request anytime in the next 3 months, but Wrexham are quite determined to hold onto him by the look of things.
Phil Parkinson puts Josh Windass to Rangers transfer rumour to bed
Recently speaking to Leader Live, boss Phil Parkinson put the Josh Windass to Rangers rumours to bed: “There was no contact in January for Josh, not officially. Josh is our player, he had a good season and we are looking forward to him building on that next year. We are looking to add to the quality we have got, not lose it.”
That firmly puts Windass off from Rangers until the Ibrox outfit shows up with an irresistible transfer offer. And being real, that amount will have to be above £5-7m. When everybody wrote Wrexham off from the playoffs spot in March, it was Windass who stepped up with goals almost every game to drag the Red Dragons back into the top 6 conversations.
With a fully fit Ben Sheaf, and Kieffer Moore finding his 2025 scoring form Wrexham would have comfortably slid inside the top 6. Hull City were the closest rivals to Wrexham, and even they ran out of steam until they got their act together and clinched playoffs as well as Premier League promotion.
In terms of attack, Wrexham are quite close to assembling a flawless front three needed to dismantle Championship defences. Kieffer Moore and Sam Smith can share the scoring burden all year. Nathan Broadhead and Josh Windass have fared brilliantly in their debut season, and going forward Parkinson needs to start these two more often.
Instead of picking one from Broadhead and Windass, it should be both of them in attacking midfield. Wrexham are rumoured to be in the market for an attacker, preferably a winger like Findlay Curtis. Let’s see how his transfer plays out.
