Davis Keillor-Dunn’s Wrexham return might not last long amid Championship interest

Davis Keillor-Dunn’s January Wrexham return might not last long amid growing Championship interest from Charlton Athletic fans.

The 2026 winter transfer deadline day saw Wrexham agree a £2.5m move to bring back former striker Davis Keillor-Dunn to the club. During his previous stint, Keillor-Dunn recorded only one Wrexham goal that helped in avoiding relegation from the 2019/20 National League back in the pre-Phil Parkinson era.

Since then, he joined various EFL clubs and ultimately found his scoring form first at Mansfield Town in 2023/24, and then at Barnsley in the previous two League One campaigns. During the first half of the 2025/26 League One season, Keillor-Dunn bagged 13 strikes for Barnsley and looked on course to wrap up the league’s Golden Boot.

Davis Keillor-Dunn’s second Wrexham stint so far

Then, Keillor-Dunn’s emotional Wrexham homecoming happened. To be honest, he never felt like becoming a starter from day 1 but boss Phil Parkinson straightaway restricted him to the bench. In his second Wrexham stint, Keillor-Dunn has only played 7 games across all competitions so far, totalling a meagre 89 minutes of game time since his January arrival.

That doesn’t reflect well on his abilities. After all, a striker scoring goals for fun in League One can’t be written off in the Championship without giving him enough opportunity. From now onwards, boss Phil Parkinson has a serious decision to make regarding Davis Keillor-Dunn.

Either trust him in attack when Kieffer Moore is out injured, or rotate him with Ollie Rathbone in attacking midfield or sanction a Davis Keillor-Dunn loan for 2026/27. The loan option doesn’t sound good for a player recently bought for £2.5m less than 6 months ago but the 28-year-old must play somewhere, else, he will soon become a shadow of the player he was at Barnsley.

Charlton Athletic fans desire Davis Keillor-Dunn signing

Despite Davis Keillor-Dunn’s lack of minutes at Wrexham, there are always going to be a few interested Championship clubs for a consistent goalscorer like him. Charlton Athletic have emerged as a possible next destination for Keillor-Dunn with their fans feeling it a perfect match for both the player and Charlton.

According to a Football League World report, Charlton Athletic fan pundit Chris commented: “Personally, I’d be very interested to test Wrexham’s resolve and look at trying to agree a loan move for Davis Keillor-Dunn. Charlton lacked a lot in the midfield and in the front line last season, with very few players having the technical ability Davis Keillor-Dunn possesses.”

The big reason behind Chris’ confidence stems from the fact that Keillor-Dunn is surplus to requirements at Wrexham. And there is always the successful loan spell of Conor Coady to fuel fire to this speculation. Chris added, saying: “We also had tremendous success with bringing Coady in on loan from Wrexham previously, which both clubs may also take into consideration.”

Should Davis Keillor-Dunn join Charlton eventually, he will no doubt be a grand success just like Conor Coady. From Wrexham’s perspective, it will be a combined £4.5m worth of signings handed to Charlton’s short-term cause with no guarantee of recovering the amount invested.

Still saying it, Wrexham needs to give Davis Keillor-Dunn a chance to prove his worth. Who knows, the Red Dragons might have the attacking solution at hand, the club is desperately searching for in other transfer targets like Findlay Curtis?
