Wrexham need to get Premier League promotion to leapfrog frontrunners Tottenham in Andy Robertson’s transfer race.
The final month of league action has begun, with transfer-linked players deciding their club futures ahead of next season. While Wrexham remain busy in promotion contention, they must have caught the latest update on dream target Andy Robertson.
Recently, the Liverpool legend officially announced his decision to begin a new chapter of his career with a summer move. That has prompted interested suitors to acquire the quality full‑back on a free transfer.
Wrexham remain silent admirers of Robertson, but Tottenham have begun taking concrete steps to sign the left‑back. If Spurs avoid relegation this term, they are the favourites to land him.
Journalist David Ornstein provided an update on Tottenham’s progress: “Tottenham Hotspur in pole position to sign Andy Robertson this summer, subject to retaining PL status. 32yo fully focused on #LFC so nothing finalised & also interest from Europe but #THFC lead contender to seal deal if relegation avoided.”
Tottenham are the frontrunners to sign Andy Robertson
Several European clubs have previously expressed interest in signing Andy Robertson on a free transfer this summer, including European giants AC Milan as well as high‑profile clubs like Celtic.
Tottenham leading the race amidst such demand might come as a surprise to some. But as reports suggest, the Spurs are playing it perfectly to land Robertson this summer.
Notably, Tottenham Hotspur have been among the oldest suitors of the Liverpool legend. Even before other clubs identified the opportunity regarding Robertson, Spurs were well-positioned in his transfer race.
In fact, Tottenham came exceptionally close to adding Robertson in the January window. While talks had advanced to the point of discussing a transfer fee of around £5m, a last‑minute failure held up the club’s ambitions.

Tottenham are determined not to let any slip‑up happen this summer. Though a deal is yet to be finalised, they remain in pole position to sign Robertson.
Beyond the club’s long‑held interest, Tottenham’s sporting situation makes Robertson a must‑have for them. Teetering on the edge of the relegation zone, Spurs desire the support of a Premier League veteran like him to steady the ship and restore their top‑flight reputation.
Perhaps the threat of relegation was Tottenham’s primary motivation for pursuing Robertson’s signature in January. Though they couldn’t finalise a deal with Liverpool back then, Spurs will now look to exploit the player’s contract situation, which makes him available for a free transfer soon.
Wrexham can only sign Robertson on one condition
It’s worth noting that Robertson’s transfer report emphasises his key desire to continue his career in the Premier League. Despite turning 32 last month, the full‑back is adamant about staying at the top level.
That preference likely explains his earlier reluctance to make a memorable Celtic return. While Premier League status gives Tottenham leverage in the race, Wrexham need to use this condition to their own advantage if they want to fancy their chances.
Simply put, Wrexham need to reach the Premier League themselves and hope Tottenham get relegated. Their defeat to Southampton has complicated the first condition, but there is some good news regarding Tottenham’s blips.
Spurs are yet to win a league game this year. Having lost five of their last six, they sit on the edge of the relegation zone in 17th place.
Only one point separates Tottenham from the relegation zone-sitting West Ham. If the Hammers win their upcoming game against Wolves, they could push Spurs into the bottom three for the first time in 18 years.
If that happens, emerging from the relegation zone could be a real challenge for Tottenham, with games against Sunderland and Brighton coming up.
Even though Wrexham’s hopes of signing Andy Robertson have been marginalised by the latest transfer update, they aren’t out of the race yet. If the Reds promise Premier League action to Robertson and Tottenham go down, Wrexham could pose a serious challenge for the Liverpool legend’s signature.
